Hey guys, I thought it would be nice to have a on going thread of topics and opinions that might not fit into other threads, such as the Furnace Fanatics thread in MBB....this is our chance to offer opinions and comments on Coach Rocco and others.

Let me say this, I was able to hear him speak today and if he had 100 books out I'd buy everyone of them. He just continues to amaze me, he spoke on how he is able to envision everything in life, even the way his team should look at practice. He also told us about when he was a coach at NY and how Coach Coughlin made his team practice their acceptance applause and standing ovation the day before Roger Staubach was set to speak. He used this method with his team the day before Jeff Barber spoke to his team, out of respect. This truly is a great man, involved in many community events such as The Lynchburg Sports Club and was even seen at the Chamber of Commerce meeting today at 7:00am

Sounds great. Now let's see if any of you guys on campus can get him to drop by here now that Spring Drills are finished.

I'd rather him concentrate on football than come on a message board. I understand that Coach Dunton comes on here but to me, and this is just my opinion, but a division I coach shouldn't be on a message board.

I'm glad to hear that about Coach Rocco. Can't wait to see how the team responds and performs this season.

I think its great for a Coach to get on here, most do not have a relationship with a DI coach and this is their way to ask questions and give opinions....it's no different than a weekly television show like a lot of coach's do with a Q&A part of the show. Now if they are on here daily I could see a problem, but we are the core group of fans and its similar to a state of the team address on a bi weekly basis.....not to mention how great it is to clear things up, I'll never forget Coach D telling me about a rumor that started on FH or FF that MBB was involved in a drug ring and a Coach up in Northern VA who consistently has good talent coming in and out questioned Coach D wondering if it's true. If that stuff doesnt get cleared up then we allow others to come on here and leave with false information, there's nothing better than hearing it from the horses mouth, which is what having them come on here allows us to do

but enough about this, I should be seeing Coach in the next few days so I'll put the plug in and I'm sure he'll accept, in his mind there isnt much more important than the students and fans and this is a great way to speak to those that he normally isnt about to talk to

thats an interesting perspective- I actually hadn't thought of it this way before- but you're right.
An occasional appearance once a week or so would not be much different than, say, a Saturday AM appearance on a certain radio talk show- only the school doesn't control the content on here. I think we do a decent job of policing ourselves, with regard to content- so even that shouldn't be an issue.

i kinda ageee with SJ, with a twist. a lot of other messageboards have interviews with players and coaches, so it seems more official than just posting on a messageboard, and if im not mistaken i do not think barber is in favor of coaches posting. maybe as we develop, we can have a correspondent who will do interviews and then we can have a section on the board for that type of stuff.

I mentioned before on a basketball thread how brave it is to come on a message board as a player. It is doublely brave of a coach considering the scrutiny they are under on a daily basis. However when I first approached coach Dunton to get on here on the other board he was happy to come on and address you guys even though he understood the risk. I agree that a coach shouldn't have the post count of, say, Pamedic but I think it is ok to come on once in a while and sort of give a "state of the program address" to keep us informed. I have talked to Rocco about coming on here before. He is very aware of this particular board and I know he is informed of what is talked about on here. I won't reveal his sources  but it is not anyone on this board. Anyway, I hope he comes on here from time to time and talks to us. This thread is a good place IMO.

dont get me wrong i like it when a coach comes to the board. but what he/she talks about is the key thing, and of course not to get into a war of words defending the program and every move they make.

I don't mind them posting at all. At first I thought it was beneath them but after a few of Dunton's posts I realized that it's the best, and sometimes only way, he can communicate to the fans. Now, I certainly hope he or Rocco don't listen to any of our scrutiny or ideas. Because we all know that they're way more qualified to do what they're doing than us idiots who can throw out insane ideas without having to worry about being fired. It's the coach who reads this board and our opinions weigh in on his decisions that scares me. I don't think that happens here though.

Having met Coach Rocco I wou;dn't have a problem with him coming on here and talking about the team. I know that he would have to choose his words carefully but its always refreshing to see a coach interacting with his/her fans on a personal level
