I asked this question on our board and I haven't gotten an answer. Since you guys know absolutely everything, I figured I'd ask it here.

Does anyone know the rules for redshirting? I know there that there are limitations as to how much a player can play and it still count as a redshirt year but I don't know what they are.

You have "regular" redshirt, where the player cannot play at all.

You have the medical redshirt, where there has to be physician documentation...and the player must be hurt in the first half of the season and play in no more than 20% of the games. For football, that's 2 games...you play 3 and you've burnt a year of eligibility.

Here's the official definition of redshirt according to the NCAA:

See last sentence of second paragraph.
