Prospect watch
Vince Redd, OLB, Liberty: That's right, there's an OLB in the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision, formerly known as Division I-AA). Redd, 6-foot-6, 255 pounds, originally went to Virginia, but was dismissed from the team in 2006 for academic reasons. He's an off-the-charts prospect, relatively speaking, but he's also a comer.
Redd won't be playing in the Senior Bowl, and he won't be attending the National Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. His chance to shine with the big boys will come Feb. 2, at the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game in El Paso, Texas.
Talent evaluators anticipate Redd will display his great burst and bend (the ability to get underneath pass blockers and beat them with leverage; think "James Harrison") once he gets there. Redd is comparable in size to Michigan's Shawn Crable (6-5, 243). Some scouts anticipate the buzz Redd will eventually create leading to a
second- or third-round selection.
LOL I'd be shocked, as well as excited if he even were to be drafted. That's a bold statement to say he could create enough buzz to go in the second round. But hey, I hope he's right!
