Charlottesville, VA Four members of the Virginia football team will not be
enrolled at the University for the 2008 spring semester. The four
student-athletes are redshirt freshman linebacker Darnell Carter (Englewood.
N.J.), junior cornerback Chris Cook (Lynchburg, Va.), redshirt freshman wide
receiver Chris Dalton (Statesville, N.C.) and sophomore quarterback Jameel
Sewell (Richmond, Va.).

WOW...I dont know about those other kids but Sewell and Cook would come in and dominate immediatly...Cook is a BIGGER more athletic version of Kent Hicks. I bet Coach Rock has already been on top of those guys...or he should.

If Sewell were to come here, what would we do with Brock. Or could we use Sewell as a WR for a year, and then have Sewell for 2 years at QB.
No doubt Cook would be a stud, and shore up any potential problems we might would have in the DB.
The other 2 guys I'm not sure of, neither have played much, but are young.

If we even picked up Cook and Sewell, it would certainly affect the analyses I put forht in the position reviews for those respective positions
Chris Cook

Just talked to Chris on facebook...he aint going no where..his plan as of now is to sit out a full year at UVA and come back his senior year...so Coach Rocco should be doing some MAJOR politicking lol

Tap that pipeline, Coach Rocco.
But keep in mind that sometimes players drop out to catch up on academics with the intention of returning in the summer after boosting their GPA on Community College classes. I'm not saying that is happening here but it could be a factor.
PS -
The Sabre is rattling.

Remember that the transfer rules changed. I'm not 100% sure, but I think now you have to have two years of eligibility left to play right away. That would rule out Cook.

i would not mind seeing dalton...that kid is a speedy wideout and was impressive in high school. i would not want sewell, and i highly doubt he would come, but anything is possible.

You know Smooth, I'm with you on this. I don't want sewell, the others I'm fine with.

what GMTM left out is that the daily progress is reporting that they will not return in the fall.
At its current pace, January may go down as one of the most forgettable months in the history of Virginia’s athletic department.
After business hours on Thursday and a team meeting to inform the current players, Virginia issued a short release indicating that four players - including starting quarterback Jameel Sewell - were not currently enrolled in classes.
“Four members of the Virginia football team will not be enrolled at the University for the 2008 spring semester,” the release stated. “The four student-athletes are redshirt freshman linebacker Darnell Carter (Englewood, N.J.), junior cornerback Chris Cook (Lynchburg), redshirt freshman wide receiver Chris Dalton (Statesville, N.C.) and sophomore quarterback Jameel Sewell (Richmond).”
The school did not release reasoning for the absence of the players.
“Privacy laws prohibit any additional comment or release of information regarding this matter,” the release added.
Sources, however, have confirmed that the moves were related to their academic standing and that, while handled on a case-by-case basis, all four are not expected to return in the fall.

I didn't post it because that was not in the e-mail that UVA sent me at 5:30......I had that same info when I started the topic, but I didn't want to speculate as to if they where coming back in the fall or not... It is my understanding like Troy posted Chris Cook plans to sit out and get his grades up... Back in December Lalich was told that he should be ready to compete in the spring to be the starter, which was basically a little bit of foreshadowing...

It looks like Wednesday is the day that Sewell will figure what he is going to do..
Jameel Sewell is awaiting word from the University of Virginia on what he would need to do to get readmitted and how soon he could re-enroll.
Sewell's father, Harry, said yesterday that the family expects to hear from U.Va. officials no later than Wednesday. Jameel Sewell has started the past 22 games at quarterback for the Cavaliers. Sewell and three other U.Va. football players learned Thursday that they would not be enrolled for the spring semester, which started Wednesday. The suspensions are related to academics, sources have confirmed.

One more... It was noted earlier in this thread that Chris Cook had no interest in going anywhere else... Maybe not the case
Many questions remain unanswered.
Are they ineligible by UVa standards or by NCAA standards? If it's the former, they could surface on a Division I-AA roster next year, possibly at Richmond (Sewell's hometown) or Liberty (in Cook's hometown).
Liberty coach Danny Rocco already has taken a call from a Cook advisor

My son went to HS with Cook and speaks very highly of him as a "good guy." I think he would be a welcome addition to our secondary.

Yes, I would love to have Cook join LU.

I've heard that Highland Springs high school football coach has signed to coach with Richmond in some aspect. This is where Jameel Sewell went to high school, and if it's true Sewell is at Richmond, book it.
