Continuing with a look at 2007, today we look at the running backs.

The running backs are in three groups, which will each get looked at individually:

1. Tailbacks
2. Fullbacks
3. "A-backs"

First, we look at the tailbacks:

1. Rashad Jennings (Starter)
2. Wesley Cheek
3. Terron Lawrence
4. Terry Williams
5. Osita Ofuani
6. Shay Nicholson (Redshirt)
7. BJ Hayes (Redshirt)

1. Rashad Jennings- What else can you say? The Pitt transfer, after a good season in 2006 (though he dealt with an ankle injury From William and Mary onward), stayed healthy for all of 2007 and it showed, as he led the Flames in carries (191), yards (1121), net yards (1113) and TDs (15) and just for good measure, he led the team in scoring too (104 pts). Jennings capped off the year with the 2007 Big South Offensive Player of the Year award, finished #13 in all of I-AA/FCS with a 123.67 rushing yards/game average and scored at least 1 TD in 7 of the 9 games he played in (missing the first two as a result of a suspension).

2. Wesley Cheek- the second year runner from Dacula, GA (where he was a teammate to backup QB Spencer Landis) saw more opportunities to tote the rock for the Flames in 2007, finishing with 31 carries for 139 yards (136 net) and 2 TDs in limited duty.

3. Terron Lawrence- the redshirt sophomore from North Carolina also saw limited action for the Flames in 07, finishing with only 19 carries for 96 yards, but he was the only running back with at least 10 carries that did not register any negative yardage in 07.

4. Terry Williams- After redshirting for the 2006 season, the talented running back out of Florida saw his first action in a Flames uniform finishing with 16 carries for 84 yards (83 net) and his first collegiate touchdown (against Charleston Southern).

5. Osita Ofuani- Did not register a carry in 2007.

6. Shay Nicholson- Redshirted in 2007.

7. BJ Hayes- Redshirted in 2007.

Next up, its the fullbacks

1. Chris Stokes (starter)
2. Derek Bishop
3. Joey Sandvig

1. Chris Stokes- Stokes did not garner a lot of carries in 2007 but was most influential as a lead blocker for the Flames tailbacks, and even caught a few passes out of the backfield finishing with 8 catches for 56 yards and 2 TDs, and was the only back for the Flames to appear in all 11 games.
2. Derek Bishop- the true sophomore from Bradenton, FL saw limited action for the Flames (largely when the final result was already decided) carrying the ball only one time for 2 yards, and 2 catches for 23 yards
3. Joey Sandvig- the redshirt junior did not register a carry in 2007.

Finally, its one of the more interesting positions in 2007, the "A-back"

1. Zach Terrell (Starter)
2. Danny Broggin

1. Zach Terrell- Though he was recruited as a quarterback out of high school, Terrell was moved to running back in his freshman season, and in his second full season as "A-back", finished the year #2 in carries behind Rashad Jennings (109), #2 in yards (795, also behind Jennings), #2 in net yards (763), and #2 in TDs (11). Terrell was the only runner to register a TD in every game in which he played, running his consecutive games with a rushing TD to 16 by season's end.
2. Danny Broggin- the former William Campbell High School QB only carried the ball one time for 4 yards in 2007.

Look for more of Rashad Jennings and Zach Terrell in 2008, and also look for Derek Bishop battling Joey Sandvig to be the starter at FB with Chris Stokes graduating.
