Here is a kid who may likely will be our QB signee in this class. He's had looks from ACC schools but now he's essentially down to choosing between us and Elon. The fact that Scott Riddle was just a freshman this past season certainly helps our chances.

Here is a December 7th story from an Anderson, SC fishwrap:
Brennan ends prep career in all-star game

By Keith Farner
Friday, December 7, 2007

CONWAY — Classified an outsider as a sophomore transfer, Tyler Brennan now belongs in the conversation as one of the best three quarterbacks in T.L. Hanna history.

How that career translates to the college level is still unknown. But Brennan’s final game on the prep level is at noon today at Coastal Carolina’s Brooks Stadium. And this gives him one more shot to impress college recruiters among the state’s best in the 60th annual SCADA North-South All-Star game.

Brennan’s three-year Hanna career left him with 4,717 passing yards at a completion rate of 49 percent, which places him among the best quarterbacks at the school, including former standouts Preston Jones and Blake Williamson. Brennan also surpassed Brent Copeland in touchdowns and passing yards, while Copeland had a better completion rate, while also playing under coach Scott Parker.
Yet as he practiced in Conway this week, Brennan’s college destinations centered around Elon and Liberty. Parker said his quarterback hopes another school comes in on him, but he’s visited Liberty and likes the school.

“He’s already been up there and looked around,” said Parker, who is a North assistant coach. “I think he’s kind of narrowing in on it unless somebody comes along and says, ‘Ok, we’re going to get you involved here.’”

And the coach said Brennan has accepted that he’ll probably play for a team on the level of the Big South Conference, even after nearly landing an offer at the start of the season from an ACC school.

Liberty’s recent conference championship coupled with its recent pledge to deposit of $13 million into the football program makes it appealing, Parker said.

“They are the school that’s up and coming,” Parker said. “Their coach is doing a tremendous job, I hope he stays there a little bit longer. But I do think Liberty’s about to take off, and eventually they’ll slide up to Division I too.”

But Brennan described his college recruiting to a 50-50 decision between Liberty and Elon.

And here is a preseason preview of Tyler from Scout back in June:

The T.L. Hanna Yellow Jackets without RB Brian Maddox getting a ton of carries will now put a lot of the offensive load on the shoulders of quarterback Tyler Brennan. The 2008 signal caller gives us an update on his recruitment and offseason plans inside.

There's a great group of quarterbacks in the Palmetto State for the class of 2008. T.L. Hanna High School has a prospect in Tyler Brennan who is hearing from a number of schools early on. SCPrepNation.com caught up with Brennan and he gave us an update on how things are going for him on the recruiting front and what his ambitions are for this upcoming season.

Last year Tyler Brennan passed for over 1600 yards which isn't bad considering that Hanna boasted South Carolina signee Brian Maddox at running back. While Maddox got a ton of carries Brennan also had a great receiver in Cameron Ford so he was able to find the open man when Maddox wasn't toting the pigskin. This coming season Brennan says he'll have a strong group of players around him again to help move the Yellow Jacket offense. "This year my top two receivers will probably be Clinton Payton and Phillip Silverstein. Clinton Payton is a wide receiver and Phillip Silverstein is a big tight end. At running back will probably be Cedric Henderson, he's a little small but he is really quick. He and Brandon Williams will both get to run the ball for us."

To go with those 1600+ yards last season Tyler threw 15 touchdowns and rushed for over 200 yards on the ground scoring 2 touchdowns. This coming season he's eager to improve those numbers. "Next season I'd like to pass for over 2,000 yards and throw at least 20 touchdowns."

Looks like he would be a good get if he signs. In the video (even though the quality is bad) looks like he has a good arm.

With the QBs we have already he looks like it would make for a very nice competition behind Brock this spring

13 mill? Is this money that hasn't been spent yet? If so, is this the surprise improvement that some FF's have been aluding to for 6 months???

Um, BJ, here's the thing: Brock was a captain last year and the best quarterback, by far, in the league. Secondly, the kid hasn't committed yet, so there's no way we gray shirt him in the spring. Third, he would red shirt his freshman year, just like some kid named Mike Brown did.

To BJ's credit, he did say "behind Brock." I think he meant he may be competing with Brown and Landis for 2nd string.

Well then my other point still stands: the kid wouldn't even be here for spring ball.

Has LU offered? Reading the articles and looking at Rivals.com, it doesn't say whether there has been an actual offer, or just "high interest".

My understanding is that we have offered. Whether or not that offer is still active is unknown.

At least jc caught that part of it. With so many QBs on the roster though even if we did redshirt this guy (if he signed) that is still 5 QBs on the roster (6 if we pick up Casey Turner) come the start of training camp even if we only had the 4 we have now for spring ball

one nice thing about some QBs are they are usually athletic and taller and after 1 or 2 years if they don't think they will see time at QB they add on weight and go to another position TE is a big one they move too. Heck there are a few ex QBs that even play D-Line in the NFL.

Anthony Hargrove, of the Bills, was a All-Region QB at my high school's rival. At Georgia Tech, he played EVERYWHERE on defense. Now he plays D-Line for the Bills.

People thought he was going to be a Running Back in college, but he was proof of a good athlete can play at any position if coached well.

I've heard quite a few coaches say that QBs also make good receivers--something to do with the hand/eye coordination. I guess that would ring true with moving to TE too..

We are not going to bring in a national 2 star recruit to play tight end... sorry guys, but that probably won't happen.

"So, you want to come to Liberty?"

"Yeah, I think I would do well in the offense..."

"Oh, great, we could use a good tight end"

"...My phone is ringing (Tyler Pretends to answer his phone) Oh hi, Elon? Scott Riddle died? Of course I will take your scholarship."

I don't think anyone is saying this particular kid is going to play TE.

He'd need another inch or two and about 35 more pounds before anyone even thought of lining him up there.

That comment was a generalization, not specifically about Brennan...

Dude...Dude...Dude... relax.
Was a generalization about the position. If a kid comes in and QB doesn't work out they usually are athletic enough to try other areas.
We aren't recruiting saying if it doesn't work out then we'll use you here. It is usually the kids decide that they will be better used elsewhere and make the move to see playing time.

Lol I wasn't mad. And I agree, and I am not saying that we won't use him elsewhere.

:D Relax.

A good athlete that makes an impact is fine with me, regardless of where he plays.

I mean, my favorite player is Chris Rocco... a QB who switched positions...

:D

All good, sorry for coming across as a jerk.
