LYNCHBURG -- As the fifth-year members of Virginia's football team seek to wrap up their careers with an improbable ACC championship, some former teammates can relate to their title chase.

"We're a faith-based university that, in some ways, is seen as a university that's willing to give second chances," Rocco said. "Sometimes, young men and women find themselves here for different reasons that they can't quite explain."

Rocco gets it - outstanding quote from Coach Rocco

Indeed Rocco does get it. I wish other schools could get it as well, but that's okay. I'm proud of our admissions philosophy and if that carries over into athletics, even better.

"It's an experience walking onto a field with 60,000 people in front of you and watching you," said Marshal Ausberry, who starts at offensive guard for the Flames. "It's another experience to walk out in front of 15,000 people, but the only time you really notice is the first time you do it."
:D

Good PR

I think that with as much press we are getting and Rocco's recruiting abilities, we certainly have a bright future with our program here at Liberty. I have been to all 6 home games and the way the crowd, especially the student section, is getting into the game, the days of us being last in the big south seem to be over for now.

1. nice name

2. agreed- and upon reflection, I think the ONLY reason we even have a shot at the playoffs this year is because of the BSOUTH's respect for Coach Rocco, believe it or not.

I thought this was a telling quote:
The Big South does not have an automatic bid to the Division I-AA playoffs, but Rocco was asked this week to submit information for the selection committee to take under consideration.
if that's the way it went down- I'm actually impressed that "they" even called
thinking that has probably never happened prior to this season 8)

I was listening to Rocco's tuesday press conference and I was thinking to myself, I wonder if we need to blow out GW or if we win by a couple of touchdowns , would it be enough. If you look at GW's schedule, it is not very impressive. They played some big name teams and were completely blow out by them. So, I pose a question, If we do in fact blow out GW, will that look favorable for us in the selection for the playoffs?

Mark Edwards at the Flames Sports Network said that Appalachian State's network, which carries the FCS selection show live, called FSN and asked if they wanted to carry the show. That's never happened before. I'm not reading anything into this. Just presenting a fact.

So, I assume that GPI has to do with Game Points Index or something like that, so they are saying that since we gave up so many points to VMI, that it hurt us real bad. But, I thought they determine it by the wins and not the quality of them?

GPI = Gridiron Power Index, a BCS-style ranking of FCS teams that averages several computer and human rankings. LU was going to lose ground no matter what because VMI is one of the bottom 10 teams in the FCS.

It would be on the radio network. The selection show is carried live on ESPNU if you get that, or have a bar nearby that gets it.

We all know Texas is so much better than the rest of the world, so we are all trying to be more like the Lamestar state.
