Why???

Today in convo Johnnie Moore told all the students to wear their white shirts and red ties. Why? I know the first game we tributed Jerry, but we dont need to do it again, and red looks sooo much better. This is our what 4th home game and 2 of them will be white tie days? thats ridiculous. Stick with one thing, and not the one that 5 other schools within 2 states do.

I bet there are 5 other schools within a few states that wear red.

He also told people if they had a problem with
financial checkin online to call the Registrar's Office.
I don't think the white shirt red tie thing was supposed to be said either. It seemed like he was just pulling stuff out of his rear today.

Is there any confirmation that this is a school edict or just a request by JM? There should be something put up on LibertyFlames.com and the LU flash page as well to make this clear.
I loved the idea for the season opener but I hate it for this weekend. Let's keep the shirt/tie deal for season openers as a tribute to Dr. J. We need a red sea this weekend when we are facing a team that uses white & blue as their primary colors.

Now it will be a 50% red sea spinkled with 2% shirt/tie and the regular 48% jerks who don't think they need to wear anything that has to do with Liberty. But hey, at least they show up.

Now Im pretty sure the students are good about LU stuff....
So are the jerks the Baptist siders?

cmon man...enough of the baptist side crap! they do wear red but im sure they also dont read the splash page either. if libertyflames.com would put something out or publish it in the paper, then maybe it would be better.

actually they're equally as poor at wearing the correct colors. It just so happens that most of a students closet has LU clothes in it. It's just statistics at work why it looks more red on that side. I've seen VT stuff worn on our side. I've seen neon orange camo worn. If I weren't so polite in non-message board life, I would take them to task. But honestly this problem isn't exclusive at LU. I read people whining on the MD board all the time about how everybody's too stupid to all wear 1 color.

this is very true...a paper ad, or even simply putting something on libertyflames.com could go a long way in helping that problem...the splash page is great...but students aren't the only ones going to the game

My bad I was in a cranky mood for an hour or two.
There should just be some consistency in what they say/do, and yeah getting the word out theough the paper would be a great idea

I agree and disagree at the same time. I absolutely despise it for this weekend. I also don't like it for the opening game, and here's why:
We likely have 6 home games every year. Of those six home games, we generally have five that have things to help increase attendance:
1) Season Opener - people are excited to have football
2) Parents weekend - we get a ton of parents there, which means more people
3) Homecoming - all of the alumni, etc
4) Senior Day - last game of the season so people want to come to it simply because it's the last one or to support friends/family on the team
5) CFAW - The high school kids don't know any better
That leaves us with one games that doesn't have a "gimmick" (for lack of a better word). This game should be the Founder's Day Game. It should be set aside as the one game of the year, with nothing else going on, to honor Jerry. This should be the white shirt red tie game of every year. It's something that no other school in the country can have. Sure, Penn State has the White Out game every year, App St has Black Saturday every year, but this would be something that is unique to our school. It allows us to do the white shirt red tie thing in a way that doesn't become over saturated and allows us to give Jerry his own day where nothing else is happening.
Then again, I'm just some idiot student who doesn't know anything.

I'm with SJ...I'm OK either way
ALTHOUGH...I dont think anything looks as good from a distance than to see thousands of people wearing white shirts and red ties...the season opener was unreal and look so good...a lot better than some simple red shirt
I think it looks to good to only do once a year

I will weigh in and agree with HMO...from the Baptist side, it looked great over in the student section.

I'm with the big fella, and a great idea too Jon. It wold be great to have a Founders Day game. By the way, why have they not been playing the bagpipes every game for the raising of the flag?

The bagpipes was only a one-time thing I guess. I wish they'd do more of a ceremony for the 71 flag. They just say, "Uh, we're raising it now" and don't do anything else. I think it'd be the perfect thing to do right before the players came out.

Dont I recall them doing it for more than one game? Maybe I'm just thinking back to the first game when they practiced it 45 times....but I could have sworn they've done it for 2 games or so

They only did the bagpipes for the first game.

the best way to get the fans in order as far as color is concerned is to give free tshirts at the gate...they did it my freshman year and i still saw people rocking them last year ...4yrs later... dont come at me with cost issues either bc as anyone who was around in 03 will admit the athletic program was bare bones compared to what they are doing now and they found the dough to put up for some t's....even better we could prolly get the cost almost completely absorbed through some sponsors who are guaranteed to have their name on the backs of thousands of poor old lu students who will wear those shirts till they fall off their backs
as far as color im not a huge red fan id prefer navy blue but for some reason the color red is known for its intimidation/power factor but only if your name is eldrick woods
my flight for va leaves at 6am tommarrow and this flame fan needs his beauty sleep...ill look for ur tailgate...over and out

Umm...you know the band has red shirts now right...we only used the blue ones the last couple weeks because it was for exhibition performances.

And you realize we'll continue to make fun of you guys for the dumbest decision ever in regards to shirts.
