Now that I mention it, shouldn't he be banned from NCAA participation? I find his name offensive to Native Americans.

I think that rule only applies to post-season play. So he's good for now...but if they ever make the playoffs, that might cause some trouble

nah- the name isn't the problem here- but I think his headdress MAY be a bit offensive to some people.

Odd that they'd allow him to wear it in an official photo, though :?

I heard he was changing his name to Josh Golden Eagle to comply. He was gonna change it to just Josh Gold but his family thought that was a dumb name.

We definitely need to come out ready to play. If we don't, we could definitely lose. I'm sure the guys will be pumped for the start of conference play, but it's always hard to go on the road and get a W.

From Chris' LU Notebook:
Bye week, right time

For the last two seasons, Rocco planned Liberty's bye week for the Saturday after his team played an FBS opponent, and that's worked out well both times. Rocco said he wasn't sure what kind of energy the Flames would have had if they had to play the CSU game last Saturday versus this Saturday. Playing up against a team with 22 more scholarships can take a physical and emotional toll on an FCS team.

"Week 5, week 6, somewhere in there is the time to have the open bye week, maybe week 7 at latest," Rocco said. "I've seen a couple of teams play this year their first game and then have an open date. I'm never a fan of that."

Charleston Southern defensive end poses Marine-tough attitude

Charleston Southern football coach Jay Mills had a heck of a time finding any drills that would challenge senior defensive end Dennis Justiniani.

Extra weight-room work? One-on-one drills against offensive linemen? Whatever. That stuff is cake.

Especially when you've been through a couple of firefights in Iraq.
