So, to do my part:

Who has been your favorite player of the first half of the season and why?

What has performed better than you thought they would?

Who do you think will be a significant contributor for the rest of the season?

This is what I like to call a "Positive Thread" so please, let's keep it that way.

Vince Redd could be the answer to all three, but I will be more creative...

Who has been your favorite player of the first half of the season and why?

Definitely Wynton Jackson, with ZT in a close 2nd. I mean really, who doesn't love a guy who is faster than everyone, and refuses to go down.

What has performed better than you thought they would?

The easy answer would be the offense, but I will be more specific and say the O-Line. They have given Brock FOREVER to throw, and opened up huge holes for the backs on a lot of plays.

Who do you think will be a significant contributor for the rest of the season?

4 People, in reverse order:

Noah Greenbaum. I get the feeling one of these games will come down to him needing to make a big kick, and he will.

Pat Calvary. This guy just gets me fired up when he makes a play. He always seems to make a hit or break up a pass or get a pick at the right time.

Ryan Best. I'm not sure how, or why, but I have a hunch this kid might show up and make a play or two that change the course of a game.

and finally......

BROCK SMITH. He knows this last stretch of games will decide his future here. He is a Junior, heading into a Senior season in which everyone seems to have this unspoken (or maybe spoken) assumption that Mike Brown will take over. I think Brock isn't going to take that lying down. I see a 4 TD game on the horizon. I see some big plays running on the horizon. I see Brock giving every last bit of heart he's got to win the BSC and to try and show everyone he is worthy of the starting spot next year.

Hursky. Because I like seeing people crushed.

I agree with ToTheLeft. The offensive line has been surprisingly impressive. They don't get enough credit for the offensive output this season.

Wynton Jackson. He's been spectacular so far and I'm not even sure we've seen his best game yet.

Who has been your favorite player of the first half of the season and why?
wynton jackson---lightning in a bottle. amazing talent!
vince redd---loved him at UVA and he has disrupted games this year.

What has performed better than you thought they would?
special teams esp punting...zac kolegue- i really thought this guy would be a bust, but he has performed very well. and greenbaum has been steady and not a liability.

Who do you think will be a significant contributor for the rest of the season?
noah greenbaum- as to the left said he is gonna make a big kick to win a game.

Favorite:
Wynton - it's hard not to like the kid. He's awesome on and off the field.

Surprise:
Rashad - last year was a little disappointing. He was a little overweight and never had that really impressive game (aside from when he got hurt vs W&M). This year he's lost weight, he's a lot faster, and he's hitting the hole harder. He's also proving to be a threat to catch the ball.

Significant contributor:
The young linebackers - the two guys that played this past weekend (Tinsley and Bannon) have showed that they can play on our level. This gives us the depth to give Hursky and SRL a breather when needed with not as much drop-off. We know that the backups aren't "liabilities" so I expect those guys to play a big role in spelling the two starters.

Who has been your favorite player of the first half of the season and why?

Wynton Jackson, hands down. He's been amazing this year.

What has performed better than you thought they would?

I'm going to have to go with Spencer Landis. He's done a pretty good job in the limited number of snaps we've seen him. I had a hard time with this one because nobody has really stepped out above and beyond what we expected of them this season.

Who do you think will be a significant contributor for the rest of the season?

Wes Cheek. I think we're going to see him a lot more around the goal line as the season progresses. I'd hope to see more of ZT here in this category.

Who has been your favorite player of the first half of the season and why?

Wynton Jackson easily. Not necessarily because of his play at WR, although that will bring out other things, but because of how he single handedly changes the game. W+M kicked out of bounds 2 or 3 times in a row to stay away from him. No one will punt to him. Just that alone is giving us 10+yards a possession.

What has performed better than you thought they would?
Nick Hursky. Never thought Id say we are allright at MLB without Manny. Hes had huge shoes to fill and hes done a great job. Also lights people up, so double offensive

Who do you think will be a significant contributor for the rest of the season?
Kent Hicks. We always rag on him, but how many games has it been since he got penalized over something stupid? 2? Thats progress. Hes a great player and honestly I dont see why he doesnt get much better by the end of this year

I hate to be like everybody else...but man, wynton jackson has been amazing...

What has performed better than you thought they would?

is it cheating to say Wynton again?? There have been some others as well...but I am just shocked by how good he actually is....maybe i just have a bit of a man crush....haha

Who do you think will be a significant contributor for the rest of the season?

Rashad Jennings...I think he showed last game that he has what it take to be the feature back...we need him

Who has been your favorite player of the first half of the season and why?

Do you even need to ask? #24 has been solid- from what I've seen and heard, has played to the best of his ability (which is a feat in and of itself) and last weeks results alone show his talent level. Also, by all accounts a great kid who lets his play do the talking rather than his yap.

What has performed better than you thought they would?

SMOOTHIE beat me to it (only because of a conf call at work), but: hands down- Zac Kolegue. What a turn-around both in performance and likely confidence. Great move here.

Who do you think will be a significant contributor for the rest of the season?

Zach Terrell would be the obvious choice- but I'm going with Chris Rocco. I think his obvious talent, along with Coach's statements about "self-scouting" and changing up the defensive personnel AND schemes means we see more of #14.

Nice thread topic SJ :)

Who has been your favorite player of the first half of the season and why?

I've enjoyed watching Wynton Jackson and Zach Terrell on Offense. Wynton has been awesome to watch on both offense and special teams. Zach Terrell isn't the biggest guy, but boy can he make things happen.

On defense, I'd have to say Stevie Ray Lloyd and Vince Redd are my favorites. Vince is a game wrecker and SRL is also great. This past weekend up at Toledo (for those of you who werent able to actually watch the game..) SRL was ALL OVER THE PLACE making tackles. Both of these guys are good, physical players and are fun to watch.

What has performed better than you thought they would?

Well, being that I didn't follow the Flames until this season, I didn't really have an idea of how the team would be. I came up to the spring game and thought the guys looked pretty good. I think things are coming together with this team, and in a couple more years hopefully we'll have some Big South Championships under our belts :cheerleader

Who do you think will be a significant contributor for the rest of the season?

I agree with SJ on this one. I think we'll see more of Tinsley and Bannon for the rest of the season. These guys are young, so I expect them to flourish down the stretch. As a whole, I expect our defense to start getting better after this bye week...

Who has been your favorite player of the first half of the season and why?

Wynton Jackson. S-T-U-D

What has performed better than you thought they would?

Nick Hursky. I didn't know how good he would be and thought it would be a big drop off from Manny, but kid has been a beast.

Who do you think will be a significant contributor for the rest of the season?

I hope Brock. I've been big on him before the season, and I hope he will take this bye week to shore some stuff up and be ready to lead us to a championship

I could come up with justification for Wynton Jackson being the answer to all three, but I'll take a stab at being more creative...

Most impressive: Someone said the O-line, and I've noticed that, too. In my opinon, a big improvement over last year. With the kind of time they're giving him, Brock will come around.

Performed better than I thought? Verdict still out. My pick thus far is everyone on special teams. Good coverage for the most part, field goals and punts aren't such a worry anymore, and obviously Jackson's returns have conistently had us in great field position.

Significant Contributor rest of the year: Rashad Jennings. Showed some really good things last week. I think he's ready for a monster second half through the Big South.
