Play Calling...

I am really not going to say much (yet) on what I think about this, I just wanted to see if others are thinking like I have been.

I didnt notice play calling to be much of an issue until W&M where I dont think ZT got the ball enough and then Saturday RJ getting the ball just 3 times in the 4th.

So what do yall think about the play calling up to this point.

Also who is calling the plays? Is it our OC?

It is a little suspect. I think there is a bit of a "go for the kill" mentality, rather than sticking with what worked for a while.

All I remember last year, 3rd and 3, handoff to Wes Cheek. I think in pressure situations Coach whoevercallstheplays seems to call stuff that doesnt make sense. As a whole, it seems this year more than last we have no attack mode on offense. Heres the lineup of plays - Rashad to the left, Quick slants, One deep ball per game, Nothing over 10 yards passing, ZT occasional run from shotgun slashing for 25 yards, then goes back and sits down. If you include last year we had the WR screen, which hasnt been used as much I think.

With that said, how much of that is coaching? Brock is a game manager, not a game winner. If coach knows he cant get a 15 yard completion, why would he call plays like that? If our linemen are hurt, why run to that side?

With all this said, there at least 3 to 4 to more games where people got on here complaining about playcalling. Although that is much less than Brock as a our QB, and less than Kent Hicks making trouble, and MUCHMUCH less than the amount of times paradox has made himself look like and idiot, but its still an issue.

With playcalling though, Im more concerned with our D - Wussy Cover 2, all game

I believe Coach Wach calls the plays and frankly it hasn't been that huge of an issue to me. Sure I'd like to see Zach get more touches and I'd like to see us open things up a little more from time to time. But generally speaking our issues have been more on the execution side than play selection.

Rashad not touching the ball with a double digit point lead in the 4th when he has been averaging 6.5 is a big issue. Sorry to blatantly disagree, but it is.

I was speaking in general and not being specific. I agree it would've been nice to see more of Rashad. But in the totality of the season I'm not overly bothered by the play calling.

I have questioned it at times...more so in the close game situation...the defense was put into a bad situation because of how they went away from the run...but play calling over all has been good

The reason I don't listen to people whining about play calling:

At Elon, I specifically remember hearing 2-3 people around me yell at Coach Wachenheim that we should've run the option play on 3rd and 2. At that moment, I realized that 90% of the people around me had no clue what they were talking about.

<------ Not at Elon

Its sketchy at times, but there are there are bigger issues we have to deal with, like tackling, and occasionally throwing and catching balls, and Kent Hicks, and defending the pass. Does going away from 3 make sense in that game? probably not.

I think the lack of defensive intensity is more to blame than play-calling. We can't stop anything.

There has not been a single game where the playcalling was the reason we lost. Any game we have lost, besides Elon where we didn't show up, the team has had an oppurtunity to win WITH the plays that were called. If I'm missing one, then by all means, let me know.
