One of the reasons Brock looked like he did in high school was because, as many folks have pointed out, St. Francis practically WAS a high school team. It sounds like everyone, including Brock, looked great but let's keep it in perspective. We should have pummelled this team. That fact that we did just means we are back to normal not that we achieved some major milestone.
The thing that was impressive about Brock was not his stat line. I could care less what his stat line for last night was. What was impressive was he was hitting his receivers in the numbers, he was reading his progressions, and he was making good decisions. That's what impressed me, not the stat line.
Awesome! Do it again next week against a stronger pass rush and better defensive backs. Let's see some sort of consistency. I am not trying to be critical. I just want to see some follow through against better competition before I am willing to say "All is Well" again.
I also follow Alabama and something similar is happening with their QB. He looks great one game then average the next. Sometimes both in one game. I say the same thing about him. You need consistency out of the QB position. Especially a second year starter like Brock or JP Wilson.
I am not out to get Brock or any of the others that have so far been inconsistent. Its just that beating St. Francis and a couple of DII teams is not my definition of success and it may or may not help us get to the next level on our journey back to respectability. It depends on if we can take what we learn in these games and follow through and play well in games that matter. We will start to find out next week and the weeks ahead. I hope we come out the rest of the season and drill some teams. I hope Brock looks as good the rest of the way as he did last night. We need it. The school needs it. It is what we all want.
