Flame Fans Taking to the Road

From Chris' LU Notebook ...
Road support

Two years ago at Williamsburg's Zable Stadium, the Flames' band of traveling fans could be counted on two hands. Liberty was in the midst of a two-game skid in which it was outscored 98-0, so that was understandable.

Contrast that with the Liberty fan turnout last Saturday at Zable, and it's easy to see the transformation the Flames' program has made. Liberty sold out its allotment of 500 tickets and easily twice that many people were wearing LU colors in the stands.

"We do notice that," Liberty safety Ryan Greiser said. "The fan support has been really tremendous this year. Every game, it's been 12,000 fans in the stands. And I was really surprised to see how many people actually showed up at the game in Williamsburg, especially the students.

"It's really great when students will travel three hours to a game just to watch you play for a couple of hours. The fans mean a lot to us, and it's been great so far."

Still impressed with last weeks turnout in Williamsburg. Considering some people thought we could get blown out and it was a night game that wasn't over until 1030, that was great. Anyone have idea how many was there? It looked like 3 sections full but Rocco said 2000 on Tuesday night.

I can only hope the turnout is just as good today at Elon. Last weekend was really something special for Flame Fans in spite of the L.
