The other thread had lost its way and gone horribly off topic. But if you guys still want to vent some more, help yourselves.

back in the burg and tired. Long weekend. One good thing is the Yankee Candle store in WIlliamsburg had buy 4 pieces of fudge and get 2 free!! Anyway back to footbal. A great turnout last night of LU fans. I haven't read everything on hear about the game so if I repeat anything sorry. Need to figure out a way to get Jackson the ball since no one is going to kick his way. I don't think we went deep to him all night or anyone. Why was Redd on coverage so much? Don't need to say anything about the spot. We had our chances Third and goal you can not throw an INT in the endzone. We had several offensive & defensive players drop balls last night. Hpefully we can put this behind us and move on.

Why did we never man Redd up on the TE? Hes not that good at zone coverage and when blitzing, hes not gonna overpower a tackle. Send him on a blitz up the middle or cover their best recieving weapon. Zone has killed us all last year and last night, do we not have the athletes to man up? I think we would.... although Hicks would face guard all game so maybe scratch that.

I agree, i was puzzled why he kept picking up the 4th wideout or the motion reciever who everyone in the place knew wasn't going to get the ball. W&M offensive sets took him out of the game in my opinion and i didn't see much adjustment to get him more involved.

Ok - I know everyone has been checking back every minute looking for my thoughts from the game Saturday night. Knowing that I'm the authority of College Sports:) But here is how I see things -

1) The spot was truly a screw up!! He was 8 inches from a first and got tackled by a linebacker. He didn't get stuffed so it is impossible to say he didn't get the 8 inches needed. Secondly - we started at the 25 and the nose of the ball was touching the line even after the poor spot - by my math - start at 25, first set of downs, end up touching 15 - It's another Liberty...FIRST DOWN.

2) Brock did alright in the second half. In my opinion he did better because he throw the ball, stopped trying to place it - just threw it to his spots and let the receivers adjust. He had an alright game, but it's not time to start the "Bench Brock" chatter. Landis would not come in here and light the world on fire and Mike Brown is a FRESHMAN who plays very similarly to another person on our team named Terrell. He might be good, but he is undersized and to expect the offense to adjust to a change of QB right now would be a big mistake. Brown, like Terrell is not drop back passer, but has to be on the move to get the ball out. Let him redshirt, so we can have him for 5 years. My one suggestion is to have Brock run more - he's not that slow and he is big and hard to bring down - it would also help keep the LBs close.

3) Was really impressed with Crawford - He did a great job catching the ball. Didn't even know he was on the team the first two games.

4) Playoffs are out. As much as it pains me to say it. We are done. With a loss to Toledo and Tusculum, Shippensburg and St.Francis (who I can't even find a website for) on the schedule. Mixed with the conference being so bad this year - this was a must win for us.

5) Splitting Jennings out is a waste! I understand Terrell with his speed, but to line Jennings outside is a waste. He is not fast enough to command attention on a fade route and was never used when he was there. I would rather put someone else there if he is not going to be an option in the play.

6) Defense? Wow - W&M was good, but we still should have been able to get some better pressure on their QB. The whole experiment with Redd at OLB is wrong. He needs to be put back at DE and let him float around if need be, but all the teams are doing are spreading us, so he has to cover a receiver or sending a TE his way so he has to pick them up. All that does is eliminates his chance of rushing the QB, unless we commit to blitzing. I sat and watch them - every time we lined Redd up on different ends - they would send that TE over and Redd drops back in Pass defense. He is a great player, but he got put in to space constantly Saturday.

7) Hicks - At least this time the coaching staff said something to him during the game. When he did the same thing the first game - not on coach came over to him and it was treated like it never happened. They sat him this game and Rocco chewed him out. They should throw him off the team - we don't need anyone thinking they are more important than the team. W&M picked on him all night, I believe if you attend their practice today, they still will be throwing at him. And the play before the half!! I mean - pushing their receiver to the back of the end zone with his back to the QB, before the QB even releases the ball was genius.

8) Jennings and Terrell are amazing RBs and should give anyone we play fits.

9) Our offensive line is really not playing that well. They were not creating many holes and Brock had about enough time to drop back and yell for his mom. For what I saw as a strength before the season...I have no idea why they aren't muscling people around. And Godsil and Stone? They need to work more at practice - they had to have 5 false starts by themselves - one was credited to Stone, but Godsil never released the ball - There was so much of a delay that Brock took three steps back before he realized that he didn't have the ball on one play.

10) Rest of season outlook - we have a great team. I believe we can win 6 out of the last 8 games and win the Big South. I just wish we an automatic bid in place.

What is the basis for your comment? Have you seen Brown play in a game setting? Or are you referring to what you've seen from him in practice? He does not have to be on the move to get the ball out, as I've seen him complete MANY 40-50+ yard passes while on the run and when dropping back. Last year, he worked out of the shotgun formation quite a bit to take advantage of his arm and athleticism. He's a dual threat QB and is a very accurate passer with good decision making skills. Granted, the last game I've seen him in was a high school game, so the competition in college is much tougher, but the foundation is definitely there to develop him into an even better player.

I agree with you that redshirting him is the best thing right now, so that he can get bigger, stronger, and faster. Hopefully when it's time, he'll be able to help out the team in a positive way.

I had to sit through the same game twice in one weekend. On the losing end of both. It doesn't get any better. Go bengals. I mean Flames.

LUconn i was wondering when you werre going to comment on the loss to "the mistake by the lake". in regard to flaming chick's comments on mike brown, his high school system involved him running quite a bit, basically a dual-threat QB but he also has a strong arm. from all the accounts on what he has done in practice says the same thing. im sure brock will go in as #1 next year, but brown will have every oppty. to win the job. but that is next year. we need to take care of business starting this saturday at elon.

It was not meant as any disrespect for Mike. He is not a tall QB. We have a big line. Next year we will be even taller. And the fact is...I'm sure the coaches would want to utilize his speed by getting him outside often. My point is - he's a much different type of player than Brock and the offense would have to make adjustments. Can they - absolutely, but I would rather have us do it in the spring and against DII schools than in the middle of this season. And I agree with Big smooth - Love him or hate him - Brook is the man for another year and a half. We have too much invested.
