I'm still thinking about this game and I gotta say it was a tough tough tough game to be at. There were a few "let down's" that stick out in my mind though. Our QB play has to improve, poor decisions in key situations really hurt us (redzone INT, INT on a comeback drive). Hicks not only was a let down (yet again emotionally and is now responsible for 2 touchdowns due to personal fouls in our own redzone) but he let me down physically. They picked on Hicks, they threw the ball all night to his side of the field...he was their target. I'm all about people talking, I rather enjoy it and dont think there is anything better than someone who will tell you what they are going to do and then do it.... but he is talking (so much their announcers even commented on his talking habits) and not backing it up. He needs to sit, if not for his emotional outbursts that continue to hurt us then just his play in general...he's not worth all this

My top 3 letdowns

1. Hicks
2. QB Play
3. Spot (the spot was awful and there's video proof to back it up) nobody wants to lose a game like that, not when we're moving the ball

I thought the QB play was improved. No doubt there's work to do, but he carried a great deal of the load late in the game. I don't know if that was more poor defense on W&M's part, or more his good play. But statistically, he was improved...

Everything else, I agree on 1000%.

I'm betting the eyewitness reports tomorrow will have a lot more to say about #26

SO disappointed in him.

Everything I was worried about in the Spring game is coming to fruition

We can throw on anyone if we can block. Liberty brought some great blitzes but our QB is pretty elusive.

We had no pressure on their QB all night. None. That was the weakness in our defense. Any QB could stick back there and pick a team apart if you have all day to throw. As far as Hicks, cheap. He was picking on an offensive lineman way away from the play. He sat the rest of the 2nd half, but he did play in OT.

Hicks represents VT football, not Liberty football. If I get in trouble for saying that, I don't care.

Asside from the Hicks situation which is a definate problem that needs dealing with. Before the season started I was a little worried about our Defensive line saying something to the effect of being talent poor. With LU being unable to put much or any kind of pressure on Phillips I think that my concern with the defensive line might have some truth to it even though all of the reports and those on this board think the line is okay. Really the only lineman worth noting is Steve Ackley due to his starting experience at LU (Nevermind his all Big South status since that is not much to go on right now). The rest of the bunch don't have much going for them (On paper) and their stats are not that good. Not making big plays like tackles behind the line or QB sacks or hits. There were rumors of DL transfers coming in this year but that didn't pan out and we are left with a subpar bunch. I don't think that the 3-4 defense alignment has anything to do with my concerns.

The secondary should be much improved from last year but not sure how much Hicks is to blame for not containing the pass attack. I am not really sure if the problem is coverage or just not getting to the QB. These problems don't come up when we play subpar competition but when it picks up it "rears its ugly head".

Could anyone tell what coverage we were in all night where the 10-14 yard pass was open in the middle. I'd think at some point we'd start putting a helmet on someone coming across the middle. It seemed like the TE just sat down in our coverage all night.

With cover 2, you'll always be vulnerable there, especially against a QB of Phillips' quality throwing to a TE like Atchison.

I agree he had way to much time in the pocket, but its still a problem when the QB is looking at his side first...and if he's a lock down corner (or the best to come out of VA or whatever people say) that wouldnt be the case...they truly picked on him

Rocco & the Flames: not ready for prime time...

Our D needs work, but the W&M passing game is top notch, and they are gonna put 30+ on a lot of good CAA teams this year.

We have serious defeciencies with our QB play. You can't throw INT's in critical situations and expect to win--especially in a tight game.

Zach Terrell gets only 7 touches in a shoot-out? How is that possible? I have to admit, I was really surprised that he didn't see time under center in this game. Aside from all of our defeciencies, we still would have won this game if ZT had 20 touches in some capacity.....Brock missed an easy throw to Zach in the flat that would have been a sure TD. We really should have done more against their D.

Oh well, ...just wait 'till next year :)

Were are not done yet! We have Elon and Toledo to get some of that pride back. If W & M really is a good team that I think that it is we will find out in weeks to come just to say that we lost to a top notch Colonial team and I am okay with that. I am not throwing in the towel yet. Unless we beat Elon and Toledo we will still be stuck in the "Big South bubble" that is bringing down this program.

I think there is a True Freshman who needs to start at QB, especially if we are going to have a running and short passing offense, lets get a guy in there who is gonna move, and make plays, and start a fire on this team.

This team didn't show any heart til the 4th quarter, if we played with urgency the whole time, if we played as if William and Mary was the toughest opponent out there (I know they aren't, but its a mindset) and gave it a total hearted effort, it would've been a LU win.

And if it was at the Bill it would've been a win... but thats another point completely.

Regardless, the team wasn't horrible, just a lot of things that could definitely be improved.

I'm just very surprised that there was no back-up plan for our consistantly inept QB play. You're gonna have a hard time trying to convince me that this offense would not be significantly better with a double-threat like Zach under center.

zach has not been practicing at qb. he has been at rb, but apparently judging by last night he has been moved to reciever? because the only place i noticed him lining up was out on a 4 or 5 wide. that is ridiculous. it is ok to use 2 great rb's. DO IT.

double threat.. hmmm.. who does that bring to mind? oh yeah, we do have one guy named mike brown who is a freshman who is freakin awesome. he would be great to run an option with, is very athletic, and, oh yeah, he can throw. but he's gettin redshirted.
and all i've seen from him was in practice, so we don't know how he would do in a game. brock hits his thows in practice too. of course, brock hits a decent amount of passes, its his decision making that i'm questioning

Sorry QB play was not improved...... one thing im not sure if anyone else notices is Brocks footwork. Im not footwork expert but looking at times like your in cement shoes in the pocket can't be good. Stats can lie bro, because up until late in the fourth quarter i was looking at the sideline to see if we were going to make a switch at some point to shake things up

We have to realize how far we've come in 2 short years. I know alot of you weren't here 2 years ago, but on that same field we played on last night we lost 56-0! We have come a long way as a program, granted we have a long way to go to get where we all want to be. We can't forget that. I'm extremely dissapointed we lost and I thought we had a great chance to make the playoffs, but we just need to be ready to play next week and beat Elon.

Im with you, ive been here since Karchers first year and had to live thru that freakshow. However one thing is still the same QB play.....we have had trouble counting on Condon, Painter, Troth etc and this continues into today....
