Student Activities does it again...

Wasn't sure where to put this, but it does effect football in a way...Derek Webb is playing Liberty in a few weeks and will be free for Liberty students. Now he isn't a huge name at this point in his career, but its free...
Why do I talk about this in the football forum?? Well he is booked to play at 9pm on Sept. 29th which is of course the same night we play St. Francis.
We are at the point when we are trying to keep the students coming to the games and staying...yet student activities once again goes off an does their own thing and books a show that will start in the middle of the game...
maybe its just me, but I just think this is stupid, and I don't think a group of people here annoy me more at this school then Student Activities...I could go on, and on and on...but I will just stop there before I take things too far....
***Maybe its just me....oh well****

I completely agree. I saw this a couple of weeks ago when I was looking up CFAW information for a YP friend of mine. I can guarantee that a large part of the student body will be walking out at halftime because of this concert. It's a real shame that anyone would set this up.

and just think student activites has been working so closely with the athletic dept to get these pre game things started...it just is clear to me they just don't care about anybody but themselves....it has always been clear to me because of some experiences I have had with them...but it has become more clear in the past 6 months then ever before

Derek went to high school with my wife at the school that produced two freshmen soccer players for us this fall. You would think they could get creative and combine the two activities. Perhaps they could set up a stage on top of the FOC and have Derek do half of his set before the game and the other half postgame. They could utilize the jumbotron and this would probably help boost the attendance even more.
For the record, Derek carried Caedmon's Call. You've seen what happened to them once he went solo. Ed Young's son & daughter-in-law do a nice job (they do praise & worship for the late morning service when Ed Sr's least famous son preaches at Second Baptist) but Derek was what made them stand out. Derek used to lead the music in YoungLife when my wife was in school.

I agree Sly...I like Derek Webb a lot...I am not going to go to the show because of the game and because I have a radio show shortly after the game....it just is such poor planning on SA's part....

No, it's not. I just found it when I was looking into CFAW dates for a friend. Sorry if that made things confusing.

Or, maybe, I don't know (and I could just be crazy) do it on the Friday night BEFORE the football game. Good grief.

Or get this, this one's even crazier, have a post-game concert that is an approved late night activity.

Suggestion: Someone on this board provide the name and number of the Dean that is responsible for student activities. All alumni on this board that are disappointed with this decision should place a phone call to his office. The calls should be coordinated to take place within a certain period of time to have the greatest effect. He should be encouraged to find a way to coordinate the schedules of the football game and the concert so that everyone can benefit.

except he's probably reading this right now, and will shrug off this coordinated attack.

Ah, approved late night activities. So not THAT much has changed over the years. Do they still go rollerskating as a late night activity? Does anyone else remember when they used to lock the back gate by the baseball stadium at 4:00pm on Sundays so no one could skip church?
Those were the days! (sarcasm included)

Alumni can e-mail him, I wouldn't suggest current students do so, that just ends badly

Why aren't we just e-mailing Barber to voice our displeasure.....i mean hear me out on this one, who is going to have more of an impact on this guy......20 alumni nobodies or the AD? As we have seen Barber has power, of this we have no doubt, why not ask him to have a conversation with this gentlemen, and if nothing else eliminate this overlap in the future.

For all of you who have your panties in a wad, the DOORS open at 9:00 pm. A local opening act will start at 9:30 and Derek will probably not even take the stage until 10:00 pm. It was planned for Derek to start palying after the game at 10. It was coordinated. The ungreatfulness of some people around this University kills me. We have so much more than what we ever had in all aspects and some of you still look for things to cry about. Get over it.

i don't see how emailing will help. if he's to dumb to realize that this is a terrible idea than he'll probably just think that those emailing him are crazy or something.
It's going to be pretty hard for the athletic department to get good student turnout with the stupid student activities going against them in a blatant attempt to pull students away from the game. This needs addressed immediately, but I doubt that anything we do will help the situation. Maybe we should email the chancellors office? I bet he could fix this

well then it should be reflective on the website...
for the record, I'm not ungreatful...the more we have on campus, the better...but during this time of the year football needs to be the priority of all....
I sense a Student Activities loyaltist....

Why don't you guys understand that we are getting too big to shut down the University for one event? It's impossible.

we aren't there yet man....especially when it comes to students being loyal to the football team...
for me personally it goes much deeper then just this one event, but I am not going to air all my personal experiences with student life (activities) on a freaking message board

Then what was reasoning for starting this thread?
