I didn't want to start a new thread for this dumb question so I'll just randomly hijack this one. Sorry manson.
The sweet flamethrowers by the FOC. Are they just hot air balloon engines built into a box? I was just thinking about them and boy are they awesome. Too bad we don't have a "true" night game I don't think. They could turn out the lights and get those things going as the team's running out. Sweet.

i do not know how it is done, but i remember some saying(not you conn) it was stupid when i suggested them for the vines. lights off during player intros, flames shooting up...a little NBA esque?? yeah but it was cool.

maybe we will see it this year huh? The Athletic Department is certainly expecting a packed Vines Center so it might be appropriate. I just don't like a bunch of fan fair when there is no one in the gym and the team is bad. Not saying that about Liberty hoops btw. I just remember the smoke show with the lights and music that Hampton put on when we played them in hoops back in the 90's. It was spectacular complete with a Chicago Bulls style PA announcer. The problem was that there was less than 300 people in a 5000 seat arena! It seemed like a closed scrimmage which made that stuff way over the top. Plus we stomped the daylights out of them from the opening tip. The other thing is that the smoke took 10 minutes to clear...Anyway, as far as turning out the lights, it seems that those things take a while to come on in some places so I don't know how practical that would be. I like the flames too though LUconn.

A couple of years ago they were talking about getting lids to go over the lights in the Vines so they wouldnt have to turn them off. Same concept. Although that would require a ton of lids in the stadium.

I thinking the fire marshal would have a little something to say about 30' natural gas flames inside an enclosed structure, most likely without a wet sprinkler system.
Also, congrats to JC on the big turn.
I'm hoping for good news in a couple weeks myself but can't comment yet. [/fingerscrossed]

but good idea, in a few years if they upgrade the vines center to a better basketball arena, larger convocation hall, rather than demolishing it the old fashioned, boring way, they hold the schools largest pep rally and bon fire and burn the thing down to kick off football season.
