DII PSAC Preseason Poll: 5th in Western Division

Notes: The Red Raiders bring back 15 of 22 starters from last year's disappointing season. 9 of those starters are on offense where they run the old school Wing-T which relies heavily on deception. Ship generally is a major player in the PSAC every year under 18th year head coach Rocky Rees. The defense was heavily susceptible to the pass in 2006.

In their season opener last Saturday at Division II Shepherd, they took a 19-16 defeat.

that's exactly what I thought last week when he posted his picture! He must really look like him.

Does Shipp have the same uni as Tusculum just in a different color? That's boring.

Ship's uniform is similar in many respects. The helmet I think is the same layout, just in different colors. The numbers are slightly different, and the shoulder stripes are different. Plus Ship's uniforms are in red, blue and white/grey so they are nicer looking than Tusculum's orange and white make up!

One thing is for sure, there will be a lot of red, white and blue this weekend down there! I'm curious to know what the Ship turnout is like. I know the band is not going, and Ship generally travels well, at least up here in Pennsylvania they do.

Everytime I see the Shippensburg logo, it reminds me of Old Spice:

A brief introduction on Ship's official athletic page:
Despite 124 yards rushing and two touchdowns from red-shirt sophomore Chris Lynch and a career-high 99 receiving yards from red-shirt senior Howard Chavous, Shippensburg lost its second-straight season-opener to Shepherd last Saturday, dropping a 19-14 decision to No. 9-ranked Rams. It was also the second-straight loss for the Red Raiders at Ram Stadium by five points or less. Shepherd extended its regular-season win streak to 30 and its Great Valley Classic streak to three as the Rams are now 6-4 in the annual classic. However, the Red Raiders still lead the overall series with the Rams, 28-15. The two teams are also scheduled to meet next season on Sept. 6, 2008 in Shippensburg.

The situation isn't perfect. Liberty football coach Danny Rocco and LU athletics director Jeff Barber know this.

They didn't necessarily want the Flames to open the season with two Division II teams, like last year when they beat Saint Paul's and Glenville State in the first two weeks.

It's the name of the new sports journalist of the year award. Instead of the Cy Young award, they call it the Cy Lang award.
