Band Uniform Issues

Obviously this turned out to be a sore spot in the season opener. I have been informed that if you have an opinion about the CCU-esque look of the band you should send your thoughts to our AD at:

jbarber2@liberty.edu

I have been informed that your opinions do matter and if you want something changed you need to rattle some cages.

It may seem small in significance in comparison to everything else going on but if you feel we need to have everyone on the same page all you need to do is speak up.

the band t-shirts that are worn under the band jacket are of a teal color that reminds many of Coastal Carolina. The band in the stands also wears white baseball caps with the band logo on the front.

Who had the dumb idea of making the band shirts something other than a school color?

I think if you have a problem SJ you should go ahead and talk to Dr Kerr...rumor has it his door is always open :D

I honestly do not know why Dr Kerr picked teal for the shirt color. I personally would have preferred white with a red and navy logo on the back.

Yeah right... I tried many times last year to get him to let me play the cowbell. They didn't want anyone except for the guy who originally did it to do it. I thought it would be something unique for the games to keep it going.

should've brought a cowbell to the games anyways....

i loved the cowbell kid...that was always so much fun

Well I honestly can't explain that one...Id think he knows that people love the cowbell...heck I asked him myself about it and he said no

So that's what happened to the cowbell tradition! I looked for it and was disappointed to not see that continue.

The band was a distraction at the game due to not having school colors and blending in. It looked bad.

As mentioned at the start of the thread, if you have an opinion about the band look then e-mail the AD.

I agree. . .the band shirt color was funky. . .not LU-like at all!

I miss the cowbell sound too!

But. . . . . . .what is up with that weird siren at EVERY 3rd down for us or the opponent?????? THAT got very annoying by the end of the first quarter!!! To whom would an e-mail regarding "that" be directed!!!?????

Do we even need a band?

Yes, we need a band!

Band and cheerleaders are part of the college football atmosphere!!

I don't like the shirts either, and I don't like the siren, and I think we need a colorguard instructor, and I wish the band would play more, and I wish the cheerleaders would stand at both 35 yard lines of the student section so that the crowd was unified..

But those are just my opinions. People come to college football games and expect to see a band. I'm glad we have one. And if we didn't have a marching band, I would have never come to LU. (That was one of the required things when I picked a school).

i like the siren b/c fans who aren't paying attention realize its third down and they need to yell

Yes, we do, very badly.

My complaint isn't that they're not good, because the few times that they play, they're very good. My complaint with them has always been that they don't play enough.

I don't get the sirens though. When I hear the firetruck sirens I think of someone rushing to FIGHT the FLAMES. To me that seems like the opposite sound of what we should be playing. I like the idea of doing some sort of noise for the situation though. Maybe a sizzling or crackling or something. That is hard to make really loud though. You could get the PA announcer to say something clever at that moment to build it up.

I must say though its much better than years past when theyd play a song right as our kicker(bad enough) would attempt to make a game tying or winning field goal. Ill never forget some old guy coming down the steps and chewing out one of the band girls bc they started a song right as the ball was snapped and well obviously we missed the fg and lost the game

We should have mortar shell explosions and sonic booms  ...really though, Cool to learn that the flames were used and there's no smoke aftermath...something Norfolk State neglected to fold into their score celebration of shooting canons off after touchdowns. The news sports segment this weekend showed them doing it and misjudging the timing and wind direction so that the kicker had to kick through a dense cloud of smoke that had wafted into the endzone  .

Some sort of sound would be cool after significant plays...perhaps a fire alarm which represents the idea of a warning that let's one know that something ominous is about to happen (flames are spreading) and one should vacate the premises/get out of the way, as opposed to a siren which represents summoning the personnel to put out the engulfing flames. You could always hit up a circle or senior dorm around 3 AM during a fire alarm malfunction (bored freshman) and record that to use over the PA ...those were always fun back in the day 8) .

What's really bad is when the PA starts playing "Celebrate" right after Brock throws a pick.

and what is even worst is when the whole student body is singing along....

Yes- we do need the band. And they ARE good, they just need to play more. Preferably from ENDZONE SEATS

I also think the whole band should be made to attend a one week workshop at Grambling or Southern U to learn how to put on a show

I also like the siren- then again- its part of my everyday life.

That would be a lot of fun frankly...although the show is pretty barebones right now but we're gonna be adding some pretty cool stuff as we go along from what Dr Kerr tells me.

I am not questioning your info Sly, but why are we emailing the AD about a band uniform issue? The athletic department has nothing to do with the band, correct? It is not like Barber is going out and buying the band new uniforms. Why are we not emailing the much heralded Dr. Kerr?
