The University of Virginia

That's from Jeff Barber's lips at the Flames Club luncheon today (Scar, Smoothy, Medic, & BJ were also there as witnesses).

I plan to live to about 150 so I'll be around to see it. Hopefully we'll be so good on the FBS level we'll be regretting scheduling them.

seriously though, assuming you meant 2013 that is great news. It'll do wonders for local interest in the program.

This will be awesome for gaining legitimacy in the eyes of Central Virginians.

And LUconn, I'm with you brother.

Interesting development...will be cool to have that on the schedule.

I suppose UVA is looking at this as it's 1AA game for that year and maybe we can get the subsequent odd numbered years...as it appears that UVA has scheduled The University of Richmond Spiders for the following years...
The teams agree play in Charlottesville in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014.

Aug. 15, 2007

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond and the University of Virginia have agreed to play each other in football four times over the next seven years. The Spiders will play at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville next season and again in 2010, 2012 and 2014...

Richmond's Future FBS Opponents:

2007 Vanderbilt
2008 Virginia
2009 Duke
2010 Virginia
2011 Duke
2012 Virginia
2013 TBA [Interesting in light of today's news.]
2014 Virginia
2015 Vanderbilt

I am excited, I go Charlottesville quite often and now I have something else to rub in their face.....trust me, once they find out you're from LU, it doesn't matter your IQ, grades, money, anything....they think you are an idiot....Law School will definately be fun if I go there, although I still wouldn't be around for the game.

UVA has a reputation for having its nose up in the air toward every Virginia institution, even William & Mary people will tell you that.

I'd imagine that we'd be a year or two into 1A by then, so it should be interesting. As a 1A, it certainly wouldn't be out of the question for us to take them down.

critic, i love you man but your comment is just stupid. i have been a fan and season ticket holder for a very long timw and this is so far from the truth. heck the program is going down the tubes quick anyway. yeah UVA is an elite school and they have the right to be. what school in VA has not looked down on LU?? richmond has never wanted to play us. in fact their old AD said he would never play us as long as doc was alive. that was a long time ago, but the point is many schools in the US have snubbed us and looked down on us and if we can win these games we will certainly look better. it would not surprise me if this game does not happen anyway. im sure this game was done because of the rocco/groh relationship and i doubt al groh will be in cville by 2013.

you are cool too but i will respectfully disagree with you and leave it at that.

Smoothy, we are both UVa guys, and I respect your opinion, but I would have "bet the farm" that this game was the result of the Rocco-Groh relationship, and that is why it's happening 6 years from now. You really don't think that Rocco was the primary reason this game was scheduled? Let me rephrase, do you think Karcher and Graham got UVa's attention for this game before Rocco & Barber finalized it? My thinking is, no Rocco/Barber = no 2013 LU game in C-ville.

I hope the game has a nice buy-out penalty for breaking the contract...because I see that happening soon after Groh is fired after this season.

not sure i get you cider. this has to be a groh/rocco relationship deal and groh will not be in cville in 2013 so i would expect the deal to be broken.

I'm not as pessimistic as some of you in regard to the chances of this game happening. Once contracts are signed there has to be a pretty good reason for a team to bump somebody out of the deal. Generally speaking its the little guy begging out of the deal than the big boys (like us last year vs. Rutgers). Considering the value we see in this particular matchup I'd expect it to happen.

And unlike basketball where there is much more flexibility in scheduling, football dates are much more likely to hold up than you guys seem to think.

Speaking of Rutgers...did you see that Norfolk State has to play them this year...what's the over/under on that game?

Hopefully, LU will be able to play this game and pick up more dates with other notable opponents over the coming years.

confident that we will be a very credible opponent at that time, and may well be playing at the same level.

great to see the scheduling amping up.

Call me when JoePa agrees to play us!
