Biggest weakness

I've heard (and agree with) so much talk about the upside of this years Flames Football Team. But what is the biggest weakness they have?

I say Kicking game!

right now I would say the kicking game...because nothing has been seen as of yet that says differently...but who knows, the kickers might surprise us

Kickers are like women. They get on your nerves, but you can't live without em!

The kicking is one of the best looking things we have right now with Noah.

Biggest question is still can Brock play like he did at the end of the year?

I am glad that the kicking is looking good...like I said I haven't seen it so I can't say if its improved or not...I hope it has....

and you're right....will Brock perform the way he did at the end of the season or not...I hope he does....but nothing is a given

Can we say it's improved when it hasn't been tested in a game situation?

All off season you have said it wouldn't be a question and that he would shine.....how is that a question for you now?

He played well some last year and didn't play well some last year. He looked great in the spring, but he hasn't had to show it in a game yet. I think he'll be good, but still unproven.

This team is solid defensively, we have a great running game, our offensive line is strong, and we have talent at every recieving position.

The only thing that can hold them back is the quarterback play. So, we'll find out this year, just how far Brock can take this team. It's on his shoulders as far as I'm concerned, and we sink or swim based on his performance.

Jeff Terrell, a lefty QB up at Princeton, was similiar to Brock during his first two seasons. His performance was marginal at best, but he turned it around in his final two, and now he's in an NFL training camp with the KC Cheifs. It's not unusual for lefties to start out slowly.

Having said that, I believe that Smith needs to have a quick start this season and maintain that throughout the season in order for us to win 9 games this year.

We still have room for improvement at QB and in the secondary. But I agree with the general consensus that the kicking game is our biggest concern. Just take a look at last season and how different our results could've been if we had been able to put up XPs & reasonable FGs on a regular basis.

THIS TEAM HAS NO WEAKNESS...
...relative to the rest of its strengths, though, I would say the QB position has the most room for improved greatness.

The greatest weakness I see facing this team is the challenge of handling all the hype and expectation, while processing a schedule that is full of potential oversights and traps. Managing the teams psyche through a D II minefield and not keeping a proper perspective will be a challenge.

Our biggest weakness has to be the kicking game. Second would be QB play, but I think by the end of the year we will look back at that being one of our strengths. Hopefully the same will be said for the kicking game.

You'd never have to tell anyone you are a coach. Posts like that are a dead giveaway.

Not that I disagree with a word you typed.

Honestly, Brock hasn't looked great in the last few practices I've watched. Some dumb interceptions. He needs to sharpen up. I'm sure he'd say the same thing.

Chris, we had that exact conversation yesterday.

However, tonight Brock played the best he has the entire camp. The offense looked better than it had the entire time. Rashad finally ran like Rashad could. Dominic made some great plays out there, as did Broggin.

Appreciate the update, Jon. I couldn't make it because I was down in lovely Gretna working on high school football previews. I'll be out there tomorrow.

Nice to see that Brock is doing okay in practice.

I would have said that the defensive line would be the weakness of the team (On paper) but someone who knows more about the program than me and is down there at practice said otherwise but I hope that he is right and I am wrong. It is the only position that is loosing starters from last year and where we didn't get a plug-in transfer since the Chris Johnson deal didn't go through. You look at the position, we loose Jason Horn, our best D-Lineman if not for the injury and a very capable backup in Tyler Turner and then Chris Renick. You insert Kevin Richard, who started on the aweful team we had 2 years ago and didn't have really good stats but he was a redshirt freshman. He was a backup last year but only made 8 tackles. I think that he is a walkon, so that would tend to downgrade him a little, but the coaches are saying he is much improved according to the audios I have been listening to. My question is is he really that improved and not some coach just tootin his horn since he is a local kid. As far as the so called "plug-in transfers, if our program was where it should be as far as performance we would not need that many transfers coming in but until we get there with the better recruiting and such we depend on them very much.

The kicker thing I think is solved with Greenbaum. As far as QB is concerned, I think that Brock Smith has potential and would think that he would not join the ranks of QB failures such as Gus Condon, Brock Farrell, Christian Newsome, Paul Troth, and JK Scott, and others. Maybe he could be the next Robbie Justino, Paul Johnson, or Antwan Chiles for us this year.

Nice to hear Brock had a good practice, talk to him most days, but he never ever says he did well, just not that kind of kid, always as humble as ever.. Auntie Ann

Chris Renick is a really great guy. I met him through a girl that was in teh color guard last year (they are now engaged. They dated in high school as it turns out. The things you find out just talking to people)
