Throwing out the idea of Flamefans having weekly awards for each game to vote on. Perhaps a poll put up with the top plays/players that qualify from that week's game that are determined by those who watched the game (in person or on tv/internet.) Obviously, the team has their own internal weekly accolades, but this might give good fodder for stoking arguments amongst the Flamefans on who's more deserving each week.

For example, for lack of better catchy moniker's (feel free to come up with better ones) for some potential categories, perhaps:

Best Hit/Hardest Hit: 2x4 Award

Best Turnover Recovery Award: Miami Vice Award, Oliver Twist Award, ?

Best Special Teams Play: The Artful Dodger Award, ?

Best Defensive Play/Player of the Game: ?

Best Offensive Play/Player of the Game: ?

Lineman of the Game: Blue Collar Award

Great idea. I have a couple of quick thoughts.

1. The offensive and defensive awards should be different for player of the game and play of the game. The play of the game may be from an individual or group that would not otherwise be recognized for the player of the game. For example, an individual play of the game may come from a special teams assignment, key defensive stop, or offensive play to keep alive a key drive.

2. Let's be creative and use biblical names for the awards. Our purpose is different at Liberty and I think it would be appropriate to attach award names that match that purpose. Let's see how much creativity is on this board.

I'm sorry, but I disagree about the Biblical thing. That's completely cheesy to me, even cheesier than the "Sizzlin On The Sun" underneath my name.

I figured you would be the first to respond with the "cheesy" label. It is not meant to be cheesy, but different. Again, it was just a thought that I had.

I'm on-board with your point in number 1, but not so much on number 2 (even though I am aware that some of the monikers I supplied could be construed as cheesy at best also...which some clearly are.)

However, I think this is a thing that could just be fun for the board...I'm sure the team has their own awards, some of which may utilize biblical allusions. So, I submit that this just be a casual and fun exercise...but if the board votes otherwise then have at it. :)

Like Spidey, I really like point #1. I'm just in that camp that don't like the things "over-Christianized" (bumper stickers, t-shirts, etc). Maybe I should've first pointed out what I liked before pointing out what I didn't like and that's my fault for not doing that. I'm just not a fan of things like that.
