This year’s FSN television broadcast team consists of Mike Tilley, who will handle play-by-play duties, and Ray Jones as color commentator, while former women’s basketball assistant coach Kelley Deyo will be roaming the turf as a sideline reporter. All FSN broadcasts can be seen in the Central Virginia area on either the Liberty Channel or WDRL-TV.
Sadly, no mention of SCAR or Dennis Carter.

This is awesome for us guys all around the world. I'm in heaven.

I'm thrilled to see Mike handling the call. You young guys may not be familiar with him but he will do a bangup job. There were strong reasons that I tossed his name out there in that ill-fated thread I have tried hard to forget.
Ray will do a solid job as well. I admit I'd rather have my man Scar working the sidelines. But alas ...

Good choice. Mike Tilley is a real pro. I personally hope he will be the next voice of the Flames whenever Jerry Edwards hangs it up.

As far as I can tell, the news release only contained one error and that was that the games will be produced by FTN...the Flames Television Network and broadcast on the LIberty Channel and WDRL. I'm sure that Scar will be available if needed to fill in on the sidelines.

Now one of you guys be so kind as to elaborate on Mike Tilley and his work? (not that I'll be able to watch...I'll be at the field with the band)

Tilley is an LU alum who went to school with me and several other FlameFans back in the '80s. He did some of the early television work on LU games televised back in the Late '80s (and even hosted a weekly SoCon show when we were trying to woo ourselves into that league when we first stepped up to I-AA). He has one of the best voices you'll ever here and he is extremely professional. You guys will be impressed. He currently lives in Atlanta and he'll be commuting up for the games.

Mike Tilley = knowledgible and well prepared with a smooth and natural delivery and a pretty darn good set of pipes. He has a voice made for radio, and some might say a face too.
Oh yes, he is an LU alum.

Mike was always highly regarded as a broadcaster by Dr. Falwell. He graduated from LU and worked the very first football broadcast at Liberty. He also broadcasted basketball and baseball games along with games for ESPN and SportsSouth.

Possibly a dumb question but here goes:
What type of coverage should we expect from that Chuck South game? Are we talking tv crew that just broadcasts online or what? I'm worried that with it being Chuck South and the Big South, it'll be something like a webcam.

I know this is slightly off topic, but how does one become a member of the Flamefans tailgating group? I'm also looking forward to football this year.

Show up, introduce yourself, and hang out. That's all it takes.

Do you guys need any help with the costs of food, drinks, etc. I have no problem with that at all.

We're actually talking about that in the Where To Tailgate thread. Generally what we do is start a thread a week or so before a game with a sign-up sheet of what different people can/will bring. Check around a week before the Tusculum game for a "Tusculum Tailgate Thread" and everything you need will be there.

back to the TV thing- so does this mean, as we suspected- that the formerly FREE "LU feed" that we watched online last season will now COST me, thanks to the BSOUTH taking OUR feed and selling it back to US?
what the %$^&*()_\ is THAT?

I have always Loved Mike Tilley's work. He does have a good voice and does know Liberty. He will do a great job. I will definitely get my media pass and be ready to get on the sidelines if needed. I will also be bugging Mike and Ray in the booth every once in a while too

May even go up and mess with Bruce Carey and Joe Barry and the gang if they have food. Should be fun. I like the official announcement too. Nice touch. Everything about this TV thing is going to be exceptional as usual. I wish I had my TIVO box still set up in Lynchburg since the games are on WDRL but that box is in storage plus I don't have a TV in Lynchburg anymore. Oh well. 1 year too late.

I also remember Mike and agree that he will do a great job. I look forward to hearing him again. I also look forward to taping the games I can't attend off of WDRL.

I think Mike Tilley had THE CALL of THE DUNK vs ETSU. I know Coach Ron Bishop from Tennessee Temple was on color but I think Mike was the PBP guy. I can't believe I don't know for sure.

You must watch that DUNK muted to get the full effect of the visual, Scar (I didn't know Ron Bishop did TV for Liberty: he was my college's basketball coach for 4 years).

I've stayed away from this thread on purpose, but thought it would be good to mention that I love Mike Tilley. Besides what has already been mentioned he also hosted the old "Morgan Hout Show" that I helped produce and did a great job.

Hey is anybody gonna record the games? Id like to check out a little of Mike's call. As an aspiring sports broadcaster itd be cool to hear how one of the pros does it.

I have been in professional TV Broadcasting for over 25 years and you could have not brought together a better Team of Broadcasters for TV.
Tilley I have known since 1984 and Ray almost as long. DO not know Kelley Deyo.
Tilley is as good as any of the Main Network TV Broadcasters and has a humble heart.
He is really good, has smooth delivery, excited when needs to and does his homework on the teams and their strengths and weaknesses.
I congratulate you and the team and wish you the best for this adventure.
God Bless,
BC

Welcome to the board, bartman. Its always great to have another fellow broadcaster on the board.
For the record, I was the first one to mention Mike's name when this all started.

At least you were the first on this board anyway...

Sly, I thought you wanted someone else?
I think this is a good team. Like I said Tilley is great.
