Top 25

Being that I've never followed IAA football since I came to LU, and we've never been good until last year, what top 25 polls are considered to be THE top 25 for IAA. Like in IA there is the AP and Coaches' poll, is there an equivalent in IAA? If so, what is/are they called?

i always see the sports network polls in the local papers but im sure lang will give us the official scoop.

As bigsmooth mentioned that poll is generally the one that receives the most credence. There are a few other polls including the AGS one where fans doing the voting.

But the great thing about polls is that they really don't mean much in I-AA/FCS. They play a small role int he tournament selection process but this title is decided on the field. History shows that teams from non-auto bid leagues have finished Top-15 and not been invited to the tourney.

Sports Network is the best probably. The AGS fan poll is pretty accurate.

For the record, we were always in those polls back in the 90's.

In fact, we finished 9-2 around ten years ago and we were ranked near the top-15, but missed the playoffs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember Idaho getting in at 6-5 and it may have been the same year that LU was 9-2, but I'm not sure.

Back then it was purely political and no one was the slightest bit shy about it.

Sly is correct, things have vastly improved with the 1AA post-season selection process.

I think that the word around campus was that it was political, but the truth was that we played a schedule as weak as the one we're playing this year. We didn't deserve to get in that year.

No, we didn't deserve to get in that year, though it was our best shot to date. But, we didn't play as easy a schedule as we have this year though. Four of our opponents that year were ranked when we played them. We didn't get in because one of the two teams to which we lost (Hampton, Hofstra) was the top-ranked independent at season's end, and we were second. (I think it was Hampton). There were some politics, too; but that was the rationale the "committee" used.

 @CCU getting 2 votes.

Del St got 192, and it was a fairly close game- so I'd guess you could give them 2. Heck, even G-W got 6. Not bad to see 3 of the BSOUTH teams still getting votes when we were the only ones to actually win- and over a DII team at that.

on the other hand, when was the last time you saw us getting more votes than Georgia Southern

Agreed. They only won by 2 points because of a blocked field goal. They are obviously overrated.

Can't stand Cowherd, but he did have a great line in reference to Michigan in the AP poll. He said that Michigan dropped out of the top 25 poll the old fashioned way...they earned it!

Let me tell you why I think polls are stupid. If Michigan makes the kick, they are one of the top 5 teams in the nation. The kick gets blocked and now they are not in the top 25? It seems silly. Plus no one is looking at Apps players as being a bunch of 1A players because they chose App. They have a very, very good football team and people are acting like a high school team went into the big house and won.

App state is very good...but it doesn't matter, and I-A team loses to a I-AA team they don't deserve to be in the top25...and if they had pulled that game off then they still would've dropped quite a bit....

either way, Michigan deserves all the crap they get because they were a top 5 I-A team....

I agree, to much hype of some by the media makes them into a darling when they actually are only average.

I don't get that poll. How can Cal Poly go from unranked to ranked with a 1-2 record?
