I know they're D-2 and you're home opener, but don't overlook Tusculum's team. I'm not familiar with their entire offense, but they have a new running back named Cameron Harris, and he was the best player in Brevard County,FL. I cover high school football in east central Florida, and I saw him embarass some of the best defensive teams in the state, including two former state champions. He is an amazing athlete who can also thow the ball very well, and if he had better grades, he could have signed with a major program. FSU was interested in him for a while, and he was listed as the No. 16 running back in the nation by Rivals.com He runs very similar to warrick dunn. Mr. Jack Sparrow is familiar with the athlete i'm referring to.

p.s.- i'm already well aware that one player doesn't make a team and that high school success doesn't always carry over to college, so don't bother lecturing me on that. :D

Good luck this season.

The only team that could beat Tusculum is Samford.

Hoops...thanks for the update. I look forward to seeing the player. Where did he play...Rockledge? Cocoa? Titusville? Melbourne?

that was original.

Fumblerooskies-to answer your question. He played at Astronaut High School, just north of Titusville High. Are you from this area?

Unfortunately for Tusculum, one of our players' birthday is September 1st, and I have a feeling he'll want to play good on his birthday, and I've got another feeling that he's just a little better than Cameron Harris.

You should be glad you left Rockledge. It's the armpit of the county these days.

I didn't say you should be scared...I'm just giving you my own,first-hand scouting report .I'm not predicting a loss, I'm just saying this kid is a great talent and he'll eventually raise the level of this program. For all I know, he might not even start, he may not even gain a yard, but he was the best player in a highly respected county, I'm not the only one raving about this kid. By the way, don't ask me how, but this college signed over 50 freshmen.

Um, if he's so great, why did he end up at some middle of the pack DII school in Tennessee?

One word- grades (see my first entry on this topic). At our high school all-star game, I talked with scouts from several schools and they all agreed he was the best player on the field , but they couldn't get him in with his scores. He had verbally committed to southern miss, and I interviewed him about his plans. After he gave his verbal to So. Miss (Doesn't say much for their academic standards), FSU looked at some of his tapes and came knocking at his door, but he wanted to be a starter right away, so he stuck w/ his verbal. His verbal was very early, and he backed out of it by the winter. Once his first semester grades were out, it changed his entire outlook, and he was forced to go smaller.

Sorry, missed the grades part.

Kinda surprised he didn't go JuCo or Prep School for a year instead of DII.

After talking with him a few times, I got the feeling he was just at the point where playing football ASAP outweighed the option of trying to boost his grades. I also think he just HATES going to ANY class. He's such a dissapointing representation of so many modern high school athletes.
It just irritates me to see these kids around here w/ so much talent that is simply wasted because they're lazy in the classroom. One day, they'll have a better perspective and realize their mistakes. His roommate, a defensive tackle named rufus williams , was recruited by the big 3 in florida and signed with the Tenn. Volunteers. Now, he''s borderline on his academic eligbility for the fall.

Now I'm surprised he didn't go to Newberry.

See that Kilts, I can smack on Newberry too.

If he could get into TC, he should've been able to get into Southern Miss. The CUSA schools use the NCAA's minimum entrance requirements. His only option if he couldn't get through the clearinghouse should've been JUCO.

This kid will transfer quick from Tusculum after two years. This kid is the real deal. I dunno what happen to Southern Miss. He probably actually visited the thriving metroplis of Hattiesburg and changed his mind. I think he went to Tusculum because there's already 3 kids from his alma matter (Astronaut) there, and definitely grades. Seems to be a common huge issue down here: Joe Cohen and Reggie Nelson (Palm Bay High and Florida Gators last year) went to some JUCO school in Kansas before UF would let them tranfer in because of grades (These guys were blue chip athletes at one of the best schools in the country around those years). The QB for Palm Bay those years (Andrew Hornung), actually listed Liberty as one of his three top choices along with D 1 schools, but he fell off the face off the earth after high school.
With that being said we need to start targeting these type of athletes more. UCF had the same philosophy and look at how much success they have had recently (Daunte Culpepper and Brad Banks--later transferred to Iowa and was runner up for the Heisman). Look at Adrian Peterson (the GA Southern RB back in the 90's). Alot of schools passed up because of grades and he ends up breaking records (especially with a tough schedule--Florida and the Southern Conference) and leading the school to a national title. There is just too much talent down here that is being wasted away to these D2 schools.

If the kids aren't going to class and making good grades in high school, I highly doubt they'd go to religion classes in college.
