A Sea Of Red

I thought of this while driving back from work today. I have no clue if it would be possible, if it's in the works, or even if it should be done, but I thought I'd throw it out.


This year is the 10-year anniversary of LU's best team ever, the 97 team that went 9-2. Would it be possible to honor them at halftime of homecoming, or is that just a dumb idea? I really don't know.

Plus it's dead around here and we need to talk about something.

Id be all for it, and Im sure AD Barber would be too.

I'm hesitant about this. They didnt win our first BSC or anything (I understand there was no BSC) but there is nothing really to hang our hat on. If it was 11-0 sure, that's our first undefeated season or something....but as it stands right now it was just a good season

Ask yourselves if this makes sense...

Nine years from now...will we have a thread asking for a 10 year reunion of the 2006 LU baseball team that had its best record ever?

OK...now ask yourself if inviting a football team that has nothing to show for a good record makes just as much sense.

The analogy is fair.

It's fair to an extent. Homecoming is a time to honor people from the past. We've honored former players and teams that had less success. Baseball doesn't have homecoming.

That's logical. Perhaps "Celebrate" the team, yes...honor them? I guess that means something different to me.

Maybe I should've used the word celebrate. That's the whole reason I posted it. I can see both sides of the argument.

Actually, the good record is what they have to show. That, so far, is more than any other Flames football team has. Besides, it wasn't the players fault that they didn't make the playoffs. They had no control over their schedule or who the NCAA picked for the tourney. They did their job, and I wouldn't mind us saying "Hey thanks!" at homecoming.

I think it would be a good idea. It's always good to pay tribute to alums because they can always speak highly of you when they know of other high school athletes that are looking for a university to call home.

Honestly, it doesn't really have to be a celebration of anything other than the players. Why couldn't we just celebrate the guys who wore the Liberty jersey from 10 years ago? For that matter, why couldn't we open it up to every sport? We could bring in Aluma, Marcus, et al. I like it.

Put a tribute or snip bit in the game magazine that day

Personally, I think that they should honor all the players from the first ever team 1973 at every home game.
