That is a pretty impressive list of colleges offering this guy scholarships. Is he that good? Might be able to start right away. The article says that he weighs 235 but the stats below the photo show 215.

Lloyd to transfer from Tech to LU
By Chris Lang
Lynchburg News & Advance
January 18, 2006

Former Jefferson Forest High School football standout Stevie Ray Lloyd announced Tuesday that he is transferring to Liberty University after three years at Virginia Tech, giving Danny Rocco his second marquee transfer since taking over as the Flames' head coach.
Two weeks ago, former LCA star and Pittsburgh Panther Rashad Jennings transferred into the program.

"I think with coach Rocco here, he's going to turn the program around," Lloyd said. "My goal is to just help my teammates win a Big South championship."

Lloyd, a 5-foot-11, 234-pound linebacker, played in all 12 of Virginia Tech's games as a redshirt freshman, but knee and shoulder injuries set him back this past season. He played in just four games and made one special teams tackle.

The News & Advance's defensive player of the year in 2002, Lloyd was recruited by Rocco at Virginia but chose to go to Blacksburg instead.

Rocco made enough of an impression on Lloyd during the recruiting process that Liberty became an attractive option once he decided to leave Tech.

Lloyd wanted more playing time and realized he was going to struggle to find it at Tech. The Hokies are strong at linebacker with Xavier Adibi and Vince Hall returning. Also, Aaron Rouse could move to whip linebacker because Tech is so deep at strong safety.

"I loved it at Virginia Tech," Lloyd said. "I loved my coaches, friends and teammates. I'm glad they gave me an opportunity to play special teams.

"I basically came back here because I wanted to play linebacker. I like coach Rocco a lot. I like his coaching style. I'm excited to be a Flame now."

Rocco wants to install a 3-4 defense at LU, a change from the 4-3 the Flames played under former coach Ken Karcher.

Liberty returns key contributors at linebacker in senior Manny Rojas, junior Brandon Duke and sophomore Nick Hursky. Also, Winston-Salem, N.C., high-school signee Terry Adams will vie for time at the position.

"I was going against Division I guys every day in practice," Lloyd said. "My speed and strength is definitely going to help me."

During his final season at Jefferson Forest, Lloyd posted 165 tackles and nine sacks, recovered seven fumbles and intercepted two passes. He was named to the all-Seminole District, all-Region III and all-Group AA teams.

A bit off topic but its interesting that Coach Rocco is going with the 3-4 for next year

Also, With the kind of talent that Tidewater has to offer, especially in teh public school ranks, hopefully Coach Rocco tries to tap taht for some future talent

Coach is in the middle of hitting Florida hard, he will be back in town on Friday. I will be talking to him once he gets back in town and get the latest update and that will be on this week in Flames athletics which returns this Saturday morning as well. I will be talking with both Rashad and Stevie Ray in the next few days and will look to have those interviews available on line very soon. And the best news of all is that there is another 1-A prospect on the way and it is what everyone wants an Offensive Linemen and he comes from East Carolina. More to come tomorrow.... This is going to be a great year.

Stevie Ray if that is who you are talking about having a 2.3 GPA, will be just fine with grades... he will have pretty good accountablity if it becomes a problem. He never had a problem at Virginia Tech so I see no problems at Liberty.

The word is "eligible" not "elegible".

Looks like another potentially great linebacker if he fully recovers from the knee injury. Rated about equal to Terry Adams.

and a nice spin on the fact that although we went 1-10, we lost 5 games by less than a TD.

Came across this:

OL Chandler Rearden (6-3 250) of Greenwood has committed to Liberty. He also drew interest from Appalachian State, Georgia Southern and The Citadel.

The odds of WSET actually checking this board are practically zero. But I understand.

Well, they aren't going to check now, even if on the off chance that they do.

Amherst quarterback/linebacker Pierre Tinsley (6-2, 216) has committed. He was the Region III offensive player of the year last year.

William Campbell quarterback/defensive back Danny Broggin (6-0, 185) also signed. He led the Generals to the Group A, Division 1 state title. Great athlete. I've seen him play four or five times and he can fit in well at DB or could give some depth at quarterback. That way, Rocco could move over to safety full time.
