i saw an article on this new airline called skybus, and i believe atrain had posted something on this earlier, but i could not find it. anyway i checked fares and you can fly out of greensboro to columbus for $86.30 roundtrip. however there are some facts you should know:
1. no refunds
2. no credit ofr a missed flight
3. $40 to change a flight segment and you must pay the difference if higher. if the new fee is lower, their is no refund
4. you are allowed one carry on and a small perosnl item( laptop, purse) for free, but each additional bag is $50, and any oversized/overweight bag is $75
they also do not have a call center and no 800 number and their reasoning is to keep fares low. you do everything online.
the drive from columbus to toledo is 2:45 according to mapquest. a rental car from enterprise ranges from $18.95-$27.95 per day, and hotel fare $60 at days inn or comfort inn at $79 per night. just some ideas if are not wanting to drive.

saw them on the news.
afraid one of their aircraft is about to drop outta the sky because they couldn't afford to pay for maintenance, and have the pilots doing oil changes, fill-ups and washing the windshield between flights.

American flies direct into Toledo, but it is a little pricey, I guess for that reason. I am going to decide after the Elon game if I am going.

We were planning on driving.
With gas prices, I almost wonder if it'd be worth it to fly into Detroit, get a car for the day, then fly back.

Dude, that'd be breaking news on here if I did. Someone would see me change the status on Facebook and post it.
We as in Bryson, JDub, and whoever else wanted to go.

I did a priceline on Raleigh to D-town and the cheapest is $225 and that is if you fly on Friday and back Sunday, also you catch a connector in Philly... Greensboro to D-town is a straight flight and the cheapest is $290....Roanoke to D-town is only $285 with a stop in Charlotte...Out of the burg it is $382 with a connector in Charlotte and then to D-town...

Richmond to Detroit, leave Friday, back on Sunday, with no stops, is $219 after taxes and everything (if you get 3 together).
Looks like driving is cheaper.

You haven't added in food and all of that. We're gonna drop $$130-$150 a piece on this trip easily.
555 miles each way
1110 miles round trip
Gas tank gets roughly 300 miles per tank.
That's 4 fill-ups.
Takes 12-13 gallons to fill up at say, $3.15: $164
Other way to look at it:
1110 miles round trip
25 miles per gallon (get up to 27): 44.4 gallons
45 gallons at $3.15: $142
I'd rather shoot high so $170 for gas, between the 3 of us: $57 per person in gas. If we get four people, $43 per person.
Add to that lodging (at least $20 a night), food (probably $20 a day), and we're easily at $130+ per person.

aren't we just staying one night, or are we doing 2?

So you're saying you want to drive 10 hours on back to back days?
That would have us leaving 7am on Saturday morning, staying Saturday night, and then leaving on Sunday.
If we get some people to carpool with us, especially one that lives in the area, it'd help things cost wise a ton.
Moral of the story: make friends with someone in southern Michigan or northwest Ohio.

Grand Rapids is more than just a hop, skip & jump from Toledo.
Here are some other options if you don't mind flying out of the Triangle on
Southwest:
I guess the big determining factor for most everybody is the cost of gas this fall.
