We could use a good Defensive lineman for this year if Chris Johnson, the transfer from UVA, doesn't work out or the other guy that was mentioned earlier this year. I don't believe Chris is practicing with the team or maybe it is wrong for me to bring this up. Does anyone out there know what is up with that. Nice to see that we are looking at players like this.

I get the impression this would be for this fall ... perhaps even summertime enrollment. It appears troyywr's post was cut off mid-sentence so hopefully comes back and fills us in.

If Chris Johnson is enrolled, which I was told that he enrolled just in time for the spring semester, I would have thought that he would come in as a walk on and try to earn a scholarship this spring since supposedly he is enrolled unless there are rules stated preventing him from doing that. It was rumored that he would do just that. Is academics an issue here since he did have issues at UVA? I am not ready to totally write this guy off yet. Or maybe I should.

I don't think you should write him off. But Lib is just reminding everyone that he is not on the team right now. That doesn't mean Chris or any other players couldn't be on the team this fall.

Well, I guess Lib is doing his job and seems to know more than most because of his connections and I respect that. I was just curious, but the situation with Chris doesn't make too much sense.

I seriously doubt that Chris Johnson is in school here. There's plenty of good reasons why I believe that, the most compelling of which is that nobody has seen him since classes started. That doesn't mean he can't be here in the fall but he did have an academic situation at UVa and things like that are wildly unpredictable.

That is nice to know that he is still coming although I don't want to get my hopes up too much. I will be disappointed if he didn't play next year but the bottom line is winning and winning big. That is what really matters right now.

hey manger....completely off subject here, but you didn't happen to go to high school at garden city did ya?

the only reason i mention it is that they are currently playing baseball on "a spring break tour of sorts" throughout southcentral virginia. they've played in danville, halifax, nottoway...and they're playing in martinsville tomorrow.
