Here's a story from Chris that is right up Auntie Anne's alley:
Spring Football: LU's Smith not looking over his shoulder anymore

By Chris Lang
Lynchburg News & Advance
March 29, 2007

'It's close." The words rolled off the tongue of Liberty University receivers last season. The timing and comfort level between them and sophomore quarterback Brock Smith was almost right.

Almost.

But after missing most of spring practice with mononucleosis, something was a little bit off. Smith's delivery was slightly awry, causing balls to sail just past the outstretched fingertips of open receivers.

The N&A is doing themselves a real disservice by using such retarded addresses that make linking difficult.

"The biggest difference is knowing that I am the starter," Smith said. "I still have pressure, but it's pressure to perform, not to win a spot."

Good article. Definitely expect alot out of Brock this year. We could have a very explosive offensive.

Hopefully he can measure up to the lofty standards for LU quarterbacking set by Robbie Justino.

That would be nice for Brock to be as good as Robbie.

I think he'll be better.

part talent, part coaching, and part facilities/opportunities Robbie never had.

True! Robbie ran a pass happy offense under Sam R that had "good hands" wide outs and the speedster James McKnight and good TE's. He did not have 2 running backs as good as Rashad and Zach. Robbie did not have a great O-Line protecting him either.

We definitely had some wr's, esp. Robbies first year starting after Paul Johnson got hurt...LG Parish, Ike Logan, Craig White, Pat Nelson, Scott Queen and Eric Green

I remember all of those guys mentioned. All recruited by Morgan Hout. I might want to add to that list Maurice Jones and Mark Thomas. Thomas following Eric Green and he had a great junior year. Jones a small guy had great hands and complemented James McKnight. Thomas was good in getting yards after a catch and could break tackles. Next to Eric Green I would consider Mark to be best TE LU ever had although his senior year was off due to an injury. Might be off topic here. Maybe something for the old School thread.

Steve, have you ever heard of Dwayne Carswell? Look him up on the Broncos website. :football

Mark Thomas was good...D. Carswell was actually recruited as a RB, he was a stud at University Christian in Jacksonvlle. TJ McReight was a solid TE also.

Cool note on Brock.

At the communion service last night, I looked down on the floor to see Brock worshipping by himself. Not that makes him anymore "spiritual" than the rest of us just cool to see the starting quarterback for our football team to be sold out to Christ.

Yes, that is definitely cool. This is one of the main reasons why the students rallied behind the football team so easily. I know not all of them are like this, but to have the leader of your team like that is great.

Our football players are just students that happen to play football. They're not football players who happen to go to class. All of the guys are easy to talk to, they're polite, and that starts from the head down. Go up to one of the big names (Brock, Redd, Wynton, Greiser, etc) and say how and ask how practice is doing and most will be friendly with you and tell you.

I totally agree with you SJ, this is a very classy group...Coach Rocco has got them focused and I feel this is the year we get to the top and see some attendance records shattered..I finally get to go to practice on Saturday..

Which is why, in addition to Rocco's laboring for support, the atmosphere at football has picked up. These guys are likeable and have gone out of their way to be friendly to the student body, thus drawing more interest for the program.

Wynton is a real nice guy. Had a lot of good discussions with him.

Vince Redd is probably one of the nicest guys you'll meet.
