We've discussed this already in the monster "more on the Way" thread. But much like Ausberry, Hicks deserves his own thread.

Kent Hicks

Former Culpeper High School football star Kent Hicks has transferred to Liberty University after a disappointing stint at Virginia Tech.

Hicks, a former all-state defensive back at Culpeper, enrolled at Tech in 2004 after being denied admission at his first choice, Maryland. But he never saw the field for the Hokies.

He was redshirted in 2004 and played on the Hokies' junior varsity and scout teams in 2005. He left the team during preseason practice last summer.

Hicks (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) will have two seasons of eligibility at Division I-AA Liberty. He has enrolled in classes, making him eligible for spring practice.

Hicks made 18 career interceptions at Culpeper and was named a SuperPrep All-American. He was rated the fifth-best player in the Virginia and the 19th-best defensive back in the nation as a senior.

Also transferring to Liberty is former Virginia offensive lineman Marshal Ausberry. The 6-foot-5, 330-pounder started all but one game in 2005 but was a reserve last season. He has one season of eligibility.

Liberty's head coach is former Virginia assistant Danny Rocco. Another former Virginia lineman, Eddie Pinigis, is also on the Flames' roster.

And here's the story from the Roanoke fishwrap:
Liberty grabs former Hokie
After leaving the Tech program in August, Kent Hicks becomes the latest transfer to I-AA Liberty.

LYNCHBURG -- Liberty University football coach Danny Rocco announced Tuesday that former Virginia Tech defensive back Kent Hicks has transferred to the Big South Conference school and enrolled in classes for the spring semester.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Hicks sat out this past season after leaving the Tech program in August. He will have two years of football eligibility left with the Flames.

Hicks never played a down for the Hokies after leaving Culpeper High School in 2004 as a PrepStar All-American and The Roanoke Times' No. 5 recruit in the state.

He signed with Maryland in February 2004, but matriculated to Tech when the Terrapins invalidated his letter of intent. He redshirted as a freshman at Tech in 2004 and spent the 2005 season playing on the Hokies' scout and junior varsity teams.

Hicks will be eligible to join the Flames' roster when they begin spring practice March 23.

Hicks is the second Tech player to transfer to I-AA Liberty in the past year. Linebacker Stevie Ray Lloyd, a walk-on linebacker from Jefferson Forest, played two seasons for the Hokies before transferring to the Lynchburg school last spring. Lloyd's 80 tackles led the Flames defense this past season.

no offense medic, but hicks is a big time player. this guy was heavily recriuted. if he lives up to the hype he had, he could be one of our best defensive players to ever put on a LU uniform. i know i sure wanted him to go to UVA when he was being recruited. im sure it will all work out. greiser is a stud.

I'd be absolutely shocked if Hicks moves to safety.
From what I've been told, we lost one of our starting corners over the off-season to what can best be described as "medical attrition".

And it wasn't Calvary.

Leftovers from a cheap shot he took from a Coastal WR in '05.

I was going to say, Calvary is sitting right next to me in Farver's class and he looks healthy as can be.

I love how we all type from in class saying "____ looks pretty healthy to me."

The weird thing is some of the players recognize me before I recognize them. One of em said hey to me in Wal-Mart yesterday. I guess I have a reputation.

Yeah, it was but that Gaffney stunt put you on the map, big boy! After the game, they were talking about it in the locker room. Nobody could believe -- myself included -- that someone had actually done that.

OK, but for next football season, I expect new material. You can only repeat yourself so often before you turn into M. Night Shymalan or something.

I sat with his grandma at two road games. Then I wouldn't allow myself to sit with her at the VMI game because we lost the two that I sat with her at.
