Are we sure the home opener will be on the 1st and not August 30?

So it looks like either an early (9/29) or late (10/27) Homecoming... it's a shame we couldn't find a game on the open date, that seems perfect for homecoming.

that's a good point FSN, it was perfect this past year, I will say that having 3 out of the last 4 games at home would be a nice way to finish out if we are making a push

personally, I'm hoping for "earlier"

the later into the fall the more hectic it is for me at work- late Sept is perfect

madmat's about two hours away and offered me a place to stay, and I have a friend at Findlay University which is about 45 mins away. It all depends on if I have a new car by then (which I should).

The CSU game might be pretty easy to get to, especially if my sister is at UNCW next year. Stay the night down there Friday night, drive the 2 hours to Charleston, and then either go back to Wilmington or straight back here.

Football Program Set To Face Toledo In 2007

December 21, 2006
Lynchburg, Va.

The Liberty University Athletics Department has announced that the football program has signed a contract to play Toledo as part of its 2007 schedule.

The Flames will travel to Toledo, Ohio, on October 6 for a game at the Glass Bowl (26,248). Kickoff for the game is currently scheduled for 7 p.m.

The contest will mark the second time that the Flames and the Rockets have met on the gridiron as Liberty dropped a 49-3 decision to Toledo on September 9, 2003, in their previous meeting.

Liberty has a long-standing tradition with the Mid-American Conference, the conference to which Toledo belongs. The Flames have posted a combined 2-4 record against the current membership of the MAC.

During the 2002-04 seasons, Liberty squared off against four MAC opponents as they faced Akron (L/ 21-49), Bowling Green (L/ 3-62), Kent State (L/ 10-36) and Toledo (L/ 3-49).

Liberty’s victories over MAC opponents came over Buffalo and Eastern Michigan. Liberty downed the Bulls, 27-24, in overtime on October 24, 1998, at Williams Stadium when the Buffalo was still competing at the I-AA level. The Flames’ first-ever match up with a MAC opponent came against Eastern Michigan on October 14, 1989, when Liberty upset the Eagles, 25-24, in Ypsilanti, Mich., the only time Liberty has ever defeated a I-A opponent.

The Flames are coming off a successful 6-5 in their first season under Big South Coach of the Year Danny Rocco. The Flames posted a five-win improvement over the previous season (1-10 in 2005) which tied for the nation’s best turnaround as the Flames join Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Bucknell and Robert Morris in accomplishing the dramatic turnabout.

Do we have any clue who these last two games are? If one of them is another DII school, that'll give us three DIIs for next year and I just don't like that (Presby counts as a DII next year), I doubt the coaches do either. A I-A game would leave us with probably two guaranteed losses, and with two DIIs already, we'd have to all seven of our I-AA (FCS) games to even be eligible for the playoffs. I know they are a huge long shot, but we have to start thinking that way. Coastal proved it can be done in the Big South.

I don't know who has open dates left, especially on those weekends, but I hope we can pull in two middle to upper echelon I-AA (FCS) teams. I'm talking middle to upper CAA, SoCon, or MEAC teams. Maybe it's wishful thinking, I don't know.

Basically, does anyone smarter than me know who those other two teams are, and are you allowed to tell us?
