Does anyone know HCJC’s status after his surgery? What was the surgery for? Did it impact Last year’s performance?
Impact his focus on the portal? Prayers up .
There’s more important stuff than football.

Pure speculation unless somone on the inside cares to share. The fact that he was able to wait until the season finished to have the surgery would seem to indicate that they have confidence in his ability to manage this challenge.

Fair point. None of us are on the inside, but common sense says if it were truly serious, it wouldn’t have waited until after the season. The fact that he coached through it and scheduled surgery later tells you the doctors felt it was manageable. I’m no doctor either, but even a moderately informed LU armchair coach (me) can connect those dots.

"Serious but treatable medical condition" and "At the time, a medical plan developed by doctors determined the best course was to have the treatment done after the season."
There's a lot of room for interpretation in those two statements. We will probably not get a full picture for quite a while now, if ever. Was it serious, but not serious enough for immediate intervention? Was it serious, treatable, however the intervention would be serious (read life threatening) as well?
I've moved on to next season at this point and excited to see how this transfer class comes together, or doesn't, on the field. I am glad to hear whatever happened, Chadwell is expected to make a full recovery.
My only lingering question is did this medical intervention in any way affect our decision to retain him or not?
Chadwell was hired because of his offensive acumen and playcalling, yet he has not developed or played any of our highly touted/rated QB recruits since Salter, who wasn't his recruit, and refused to be the play caller. Now that he is supposedly returning to playcalling in 2026, is he viewing it as a positive or a burden? 4-8 would have been much easier to accept if the QB out there was young but obviously had a high ceiling and made some exciting plays but was raw and inexperienced that we could build around in the future. Instead he opted for Vasko and the results were uninspiring to say the least. I hope Jachin Davis gets a long look.

We as a university are on the hook financially for substantial sums to him for the foreseeacle future. The odds a decision of any kind in regard to his retention are made in the next few years remains exceptionally low regardless of how disappointing recent results may have been.
