Chris Vannini of the Athletic has an article, "Who’s the best head coach in college football’s Group of 5?"

His #1...

1. Jamey Chadwell, Liberty (2024 ranking: No. 1)
The 2024 Flames’ 8-4 campaign represented a step back, but Chadwell is 52-11 over the last five years across stints at Coastal Carolina and Liberty, including two undefeated regular seasons and a Fiesta Bowl appearance in 2023.

Another validation of our blessing!

Didn’t really know where to put this but it says Chadwell is making $5.9 million. More than double the next highest group of 5 coach.

We absolutely are not getting our moneys worth. He should take a 3-4 million dollar pay cut and put that money into player salary.

Does he have a Twitter handle? If anyone knows it, I'd love to follow him.

JMU JMU JMU last 2 coaches was making 500,000 and much better than the 5-million-dollar BUM.

The JMU coaches were making more than $500K. It was closer to $1M in total salary and bonus. Supposedly JMU offered to make Chesney the highest paid in SBC, which really would have only put him at $1.5M. It's funny how the SBC thinks so highly of themselves, yet when you look closer at the numbers, many of the schools outside of JMU, ODU and App St. are athletically poor. Were it not for ODU jumping ship from CUSA, and the call-up of JMU, that conference would be on par with the MAC. Also, you missed Dan Mullen (UNLV), who reportedly makes ~$3.5M, which is good enough for 2nd place.

Anyways, back to the topic... HCJC being paid more than several P4 coaches does not seem to be a wise investment. The $5.9M he made in 2024 put him in the top third of highest paid college football coaches. Granted, ~$1.0 - 1.5M of that was bonuses for winning 10+ games, winning the CUSA and going to a NY6 bowl. My guess is the 'extension' that was signed increased his base salary from the reported $4.0 - 4.5M to closer to $5.0M. Because of our resources, I'm fine with LU always ensuring that our HC is the highest paid G5 coach. I don't know that it makes sense anymore for us to pay at P4 levels though with where we are. I'd rather see more put towards staff (GM, OC/DC) and the rest towards NIL.
