If the portal kids plus Cooley in fact don’t play, I think we’ll be fine. Salter is hurt, Garth and Hayes played a lot and Lucas, Blue and Williams are more than capable.

If we can't throw the ball at all then this game will be over fast. Burger should be plenty motivated though given HCJC's comments about bringing in a transfer QB or two to push the current room. Burger is QB1 for now, but if he wants any shot at holding onto that you would think he would need to show something in this game.

Hopefully he doesn't spend the day running for his life now that the starting o-line is largely in the portal.

Burger is not QB 1 going into next year unless he absolutely wows in this bowl game. The only reason he's starting is because they aren't burning Bradford's redshirt. QB 1 next year is Bradford or a transfer

Bradford and all players can play without burning eligibility. From all I have heard and read, Burger is solid.
We will likely pick up another in the portal for some depth. I think we will be a desired spot for Moble QBs in the portal with the success of Willis and Salter.

I want to say players can play in 4 games now and still retain their redshirt. I know a few players have done that in the past for LU. I seem to recall that happen a few times in Bowls last year. It is certainly a great opportunity to get you next possible QB1 some work in

Arizona St is playing a WR that hasn’t played all year. The NCAA allows players to play in Bowls and Championships and not burn your redshirt. I’d like to see what Bradford has. Hope he gets some snaps

Does the redshirt rule apply to the postseason?
No. In August, the NCAA announced a blanket rule (17.11.6.2 Annual Exemptions) that will exempt postseason games from counting toward a player's four allotted games in a given season. The new rule went into effect immediately for the 2024 college football season.
However, the rule still limits players to play up to four games in a season to maintain their redshirt eligibility. Still, it will not count conference championships, bowl games or College Football Playoff contests against the limit, allowing freshmen and other players who otherwise have retained their eligibility to gain valuable experience.

I didn’t know all that. It theory a player could play in 9 full games (if my math is right?) as a redshirt freshman without losing a year…that’s crazy.
They could play
4 regular season
Conference championship game
First round playoff
Quarter final
Semifinal
National championship
That’s a whole lot of football for no loss of eligibility

If a Freshman was good enough to play for a NC team, he won’t make it to his senior year anyway!

NC football is an oxymoron.

Having a month+ between the SH debacle and bowl game should help in many more ways than 1.
*Gives our coaches all the portal window to recruit, recruit and recruit without having to grind on game prep.
*Extra time for the depth to gel. We will have a lot of inexperience but also a lot of dudes playing for their shot next year.
*We get the continued exposure of "bowl games to come". Being the only CFB game, on a Saturday, in the midst of playoffs, will be pretty cool...who am I kidding? This bowl game is sad.

I like bowl games, but there needs to be some tweaking to bowl tie-ins. And geography needs to be a factor. Leave northern teams to northern bowls, southern teams to Southern and southeastern bowls. It seems there's MAC team in every bowl, and a B10 team in all the good bowls.mostly unearned

Bowl games were designed as an excuse for Northern teams to get away from the cold. I'd argue there shouldn't be any northern bowls at all. Especially not in outdoor stadiums.

Missing being at the bowl games this year. Anyone that traveled down, I hope you have a great time. Throw $100 on red for the FLAMES!

We'll have to see how the offense performs once the wind is to our back but it's not looking like it. At least the defense is playing well.

If this is what the O Line is going to look like next year, it's going to be a long season

I agree 100% on both points. The wind will hopefully help us and the defense does look good so far. Hopefully they'll keep it up till the offence can figure something out.

Burger is terrible. At this point I’ll let Bradford play. We can’t do much worse.

Aside from looking rough on his throws he does not run well enough. Need a mobile QB when your OL is struggling as much as ours is.
Looks like he is running in mud.
