CUSA Championship Scenarios

  • Jacksonville State will be hosting on Friday, December 6th at 6 PM ET. Done deal.
  • Liberty win at Sam Houston secures Flames bid
  • Sam Houston gets bid with win over Liberty & Jax State win over WKU
  • WKU gets bid with victory over Jax State and Sam Houston win

Let's just beat the Bearkats on Black Friday and end all the scenarios at once before Jax State plays at WKU on Saturday.

And before anyone mentions it, yes, SHSU's facilities are atrocious. They moved up before they expected and had invested money in academic facilties heading into their transition including a new medical school in nearby Conroe. They have funding approved for expansion and improvement to the stadium that commences in full on Saturday following the season finale.

Anyone else planning on being in Bowers on Saturday? Give me a shout. I have local intel.

Big opportunity for the defense in this one. Sam Houston's offense has cooled off significantly since the start of the year. They've been struggling in the red zone and, except for the Kennesaw game, have really struggled to push the ball downfield.

@ Jax State: 11 Points on 259 total yards (84 passing at 3.2 YPA, 175 rushing)
@ Kennesaw: 23 Points on 382 total yards (179 passing at 5.6 YPA, 203 rushing)
@ LA TECH: 9 Points on 268 total yards (163 passing at 6.3 YPA, 105 rushing)
@ FIU: 10 Points on 207 total yards (76 passing at 3.6 YPA, 131 rushing)

This one makes me nervous. They have a stout run D that gave us fits last year and they rarely turn the ball over. If our run D plays like they did for most of the game against WKU I think we win by 2+ scores. If not we are about to find out what happens when a stoppable force (SHSU offense) meets a movable object (our defense).

The key to their offense is when their QB Hunter Watson is able to run which opens up their passing game. I have watched several of their games this season. When he is out or gets stuffed, their playbook shrinks substantially. They have strong receivers but Watson is not a great throwing QB unless defenses start focusing on the run game. When they do, he can be very effective.

A Liberty win will give me a trip to my favorite state, December 5-8.

Unlike last week I will be glued to my tv watching this game. To think that despite how this season has played out, Liberty can make the CUSA championship game is remarkable to me.

Does anyone have any information on Salter’s ankle injury. He had a significant limp at the end of the game.

"He will be fine. I think anytime you get banged up a little bit, you take it gingerly, but he’ll be fine.”

I'll be there with Sly Jr.

It should be noted that Sam fans are concerned that Hunter Watson may have been concussed again in their loss to Jax State on Saturday. That offense doesnt move without him. Just something to be watching.

He finished the game tho . I’d fully expect him to play.

It was listed Tuesday on Covers.com that he was questionable. https://www.covers.com/sport/football/n ... s/injuries

The line movement doesn’t seem to reflect that he is out though.

Keeler has been closed-lipped about him all week. If he is cleared, he'll play. But whether he entered the protocol is pure conjecture.

Today is the coldest day in Huntsville since last winter. We won't even get out of the 50s today after being in the 70s & 80s the last week or so. But otherwise it is a beautiful day here in Texas.

Salter kinda sucks.
I haven’t watched every single snap this year but almost all of them. He seems like he really doesn’t care and the only time he does look like he cares is when he blames the receiver on every single incompletion.

That’s coming across as a little unfair. By no means am I putting all of this years issues on him. Our defense sucks too and we commit too many penalties (but not today).

We have Cooley and that’s about it.

Offense apparently didn't come to play. Pitiful so far. May be time for QB 2

Salter has an injured ankle and it shows. Chadwell not changing QBs is blowing my mind.

His body language is unbelievably horrific.
If his locker room personality is anything like his on-field personality getting rid of him could possibly be addition by subtraction.

(He blamed a receiver for an incompletion as I was typing this.)

LU needs to spend a ton of NIL money to replace Sweeney and the rest of the DBs
