Would stink but good for him. Napier needs the help. Especially with that ridiculous 2024 schedule UF is facing.

His name has been floated round for numerous P5 OC slots. Everyone has taken note of what the Chadwell-Korn combo has done with their creativity at Coastal and now Liberty.

It should also be note dthat while Willy would be a coordinator based on this source, former national champion head coach Ed O would be a position coach there if the rumors are true.

What's the upside of going to the Gators? SEC, sure, but you are not going to win the East, and if you won the East there is no chance you win the Conference Championship vs the West. You aren't winning a national championship so I guess if you want a paycheck to be an also ran you can go to Florida

It would be a massive promotion for him. They are one of six teams that have won multiple championships this century. If he does good enough there he can have almost any G5 head coaching job he wants and a number of lower tier P5 jobs. Worst case scenario he fails and comes right back to the G5 level after cashing a fat severance paycheck. If he stays here he'll have to take a head coaching gig at a lower tier G5 if he wants to progress in his career or wait until chadwell decides to take a P5 job and follow him.

I also believe he has history with the HC of the Gators. I’m sure if they come knocking he’s going to give it a long hard look. Being an OC at UF is a huge deal. Your assessment is spot on

Because 0 good coaches think that way. Every coach thinks or sells themselves as being the difference a program needs.

That is such a boomer mindset of how things work, with the transfer portal the P5 G5 distinction is almost gone, schools are hiring head coaches with little to no coordinator experience and the expanded playoff changes everything with who or how you get to a national championship. Going to Florida does not do much for you unless you just like Billy or just want quick cash and run

No coach can be that stupid to think they are beating Georgia and Alabama to get the SEC championship, at the end of the day Napier knows just win 8 or 9 games, don't suck and keep getting the pay check, He has no delusion he's beating Alabama or Georgia

I'd argue the opposite. For starters, there's an enormous disparity between P5 and G5 in NIL money. As the P5 condenses, the disparity in TV revenue will also widen further. If anything, college football is closer to the P4/5 splitting into their own division than ever before.

I don't know. Hugh almost beat both of them with his lackluster SEC squad. If Korn can recruit for UF like he's done for us, he can help turn that ship around fast. UF and Auburn are both programs where that is possible.

I've not heard of any examples of P5 schools hiring a G5 coordinator to be their head coach. Especially not someone that's only 34. If that's what he aspires to be, he either has to be a G5 head coach or a P5 coordinator. If he aspires to win national championships he would still have an easier time at Florida with all of those blue chip recruits.

The gap between P5 and G5 has never been wider than it is now. You can't seriously believe we can beat elite teams by loading up on P5 backups through the portal. It's great for beating other G5s and getting us to a NY6/CFP but willy korn will be long gone before we recruit at a national championship level if that ever happens.

And Florida has resources similar to Auburn. I remember when no one thought Ohio State or Georgia could beat Alabama but those happened. You have a more realistic chance of being at the top of the SEC than you would at Mississippi Si or South Carolina.

No, they just hire position coaches to be their head coaches. The GA to position coach to coordinator to head coach career path is a thing of the past. https://footballscoop.com/news/you-dont ... -are-proof

I think you're completely missing the point here. Willy Korn is already a G5 coordinator. Thats the path he's already on. Your article listed a bunch of people that were already on a P5 or NFL coaching staff prior to becoming a P5 HC and/or people that worked their way up as a FCS/G5 HC.

Herm Edwards: NFL position coach-> NFL AHC -> NFL HC -> P5 HC

Ed Orgeron: P5 position coach -> P5 AHC -> P5 HC

PJ Fleck: NFL position coach -> G5 HC -> P5 HC

Dabo Swinney: P5 position coach -> P5 AHC -> P5 interim HC/OC -> P5 HC

Urban Meyer: P5 position coach -> G5 HC -> P5 HC

Jim Harbaugh: NFL position coach -> FCS HC -> P5 HC

Every example provided of a coach going directly from position coach to head coach involved that coach going from a more prestigious team to a less prestigious team, never the other way around. Again, if his aspirations are to be a P5 head coach (I have no clue what his goals are) he needs to be a G5 head coach or move up to a good P5 school like Florida. It'll never happen as a G5 coordinator.

Billy Napier was hired at UF to beat Georgia and Alabama.
Billy Napier went to UF with a plan to beat Georgia and Alabama.
College athletics is evolving into a P2. There is a large disparity between P2 and P4, and there is a MASSIVE disparity between P4 and G5.

Herm Edwards was a disaster as a coach. Also a great NFL player and enjoyable commentator
Coach O was unceremoniously dumped Not sure he has resurfaced
Fleck and Dabo are great stories. Although Minnesota doesn’t expect to beat OSU or Michigan year in and year out. Dabo is on the hot seat cause he hasn’t won a Natty in a few years :D
Urban Meyer is…unique
Harbaugh was a solid NFL QB and as recently as 2 years ago was about to be fired.

Exceptions don’t prove the rule. Connections land you jobs.

I think I heard someone Orgeron might also be involved at UF as a position coach or special assistant.

Whatever it is, that guy needs to be back in college football. I just love his voice.

Unceremonious it may have been, but at least it gave us a gem of a post-firing interview: https://youtu.be/nnBvs7prZ5Y?si=Af9lGUV3t02FBvQl
The guy is an absolute gem. I’d want him on my staff doing something!
