For the Non-Texans who may have never heard of this school prior to joining CUSA, just a few points of clarification:

• SHSU is not in fact located in Houston. It is 65 miles north of Downtown Houston and about 15-20 minutes north of the furthest reaches of the Houston metro.

• The school is named after the former Tennesseean politico who was involved in leading the Texas Revolution. His home is located on the campus and he is buried nearby.

• SHSU is best known for its criminal justice program that is generally ranked either as the best, on near the best, in the country. It helps when your hometown is surrounded by prisons to assure employment upon graduation. There is even a prison museum where they proudly display 'Ol Sparky ... the longtime electric chair used in Texas.

• The school has spent signifcant resources expanding their academic programs over the past decade including a new medical school in nearby Conroe down in the Houston metro. They have NOT invested in their athletic infrastructure in several decades. The unexpected promotion to CUSA caught school administrators and the State of Texas off-guard. They recently announced a $65M upgrade to Bowers Stadium but much, much more funding is needed to get the football stadium up to CUSA standards.

For the record, I live about 35-40 minutes away from the Sam athletic facilities and couldn't be happier to be in the same league with them. Several of their athletic administrators live around the corner from my house. And my daughters babysit for the criminal justice dean's kids. I regularly have been invited to speak at the school ... but my schedule hasn't allowed it to work out yet.

I know of their criminal justice program; we used them as a benchmark. Good summary!

Our D line has been chasing ghosts, making our 2nd and 3rd level look bad by giving qb too much time. How many good bucks do we have - killer injury list.

I really don't know why we're trying to pick up 30 yards on every 3rd and 4.

Yeah the refs screwed us on that. Terrible play there absolute worst thing that could have happened.
