I got my game ticket sometime during the weekend.
The News & Advance has stopped covering Liberty football. Not 1 article this month, other than an Associated Press article on Coach addressing the player death.
The local paper in Alabama has 1 or more articles every day on Jacksonville State football.

They're more interested in Tech and even UVA. It will continue this way as long as the business survives.

They have not backfilled Damien's position since he left to cover the Hokies. I had hoped they would fill it by now but perhaps they aren't going to.

The News & Advance has had Dame's position posted for 3 months but so far it doesn't appear they have hired anyone. We can be thankful to have Jon and ASOR to give us great info.

Economics.
The newspaper beat writer is a dying profession. Most covering beats are freelancers selling stories back to their former employers. It also means there is less media traveling with teams than ever before. It is even the common practice at the professional level as well.

When Lee Enterprises took over most newspapers in Virginia (Lynchburg, Roanoke, Richmond, Danville), all newspapers went from bad to very bad.(Roanoke paper is an exception) Price of paper went up, yet content went down. No business has shot itself in the foot more than newspapers. It's almost impossible to even find a newspaper now. For years I could stop at Sheets on Ward's Road and get Lynchburg, Roanoke, Richmond and Washington papers, plus USA Today. Now on a good day, I can only get Lynchburg paper.
When I go to Alabama, I get the local paper. It costs .75 and has articles on Jacksonville State, Alabama and Auburn almost daily, in addition to coverage of high school sports, MLB and even college softball.

They got the new-fangled thing Al Gore calls The Internet. Apparently you can search all kinds of news on it. I’m thinking of giving it a shot.

When I go to McDonald's or Hardee's in the morning, I want a real newspaper in my hands.
Newspapers should have never went online.

Not going to get interest up much for LU athletics among the locals as much without the N&A LU beat writer. You know they'll still carry UVa and VT stuff. This will just confirm in their (locals) minds that we are still second rate in the local college sports scene.

Due to the locals still read the paper's content? Just asking since in most markets that is no longer the case. Most local content comes from 3rd party sources (like ASOR in LU's case) or the team itself.

I have two primary reasons for not supporting the N&A:
1. They don't have a way to subscribe AND quit (manage subscription) online.
2. They don't have a reasonable digital only subscription.
For the record: I do subscribe to my hometown paper online. They do meet both of those requirements.

I'm an old guy (age 62), so canceling my hard copy paper subscription last year felt like I was cutting off a limb, but I kept the N&A online paper, which is emailed to me everyday. While I admit I don't read it daily, I do try to read the front page and sports page as often as I can remember to do so.
I don't know the exact price, but I remember at the time that I thought I was saving a ton of money (and recyling trips) by only doing the online newspaper.

For those who think Lynchburg paper is bad, you should see the Danville paper. It's probably the worst newspaper in the country. Most of the stuff in it is 2 or 3 days old, and copied from Lynchburg and/or Roanoke papers. Sports coverage is non-existent. And both papers refuse to deliver to Gretna. To get a News & Advance, I have to drive to Altavista daily.

I ordered the paper copy to be delivered to my mother's place and I use the right's to the digital copy. Win-Win

I was told they're only doing tickets electronically.
