Hunter wasn't arrested. His leaving while unfortunate, may not be a bad thing. We'll be fine with Louis, the Wake Forest Kid, Capers, and Blue.

With JB, maybe that means McCall's coming. If he does (along with Mooney), I'd expect 1-2 of our 3 main QB's to transfer.

I already forgot about that transfer from WF. Between him and Louis we should be ok but I'd like to see us grab another RB for depth. That position group is very injury prone and relying on caper and a true freshman isn't the answer.

Maybe, maybe not. Pretty massive injury he has to overcome, may never be the same. Rooting for him wherever he lands and wish the best for him. His running style puts enormous stress on his knees, it was just was a matter of time.

I thought Freeze alluded to something like that in an interview earlier this year, saying that was why he wasn't recruited by P5's.

I disagree. This is how it should be. Right now all these kids think the grass is greener on the other side. But as more and more kids find themselves playing in Scooba or Decatur Mississippi after having dreams of grandeur things will stabilize. Those coming after will see these results and be more inclined to stay where they are at. It will just take a few years.

My buddy was OL-men for W&M. He hated all QB's including his own before they were making 100k plus. There's going to be some bad chemistry on many of these teams.

Isn't that how it USED to be? Now the money from boosters and businesses is upfront and LEGAL. Am I right, Purple?

No more than normal. But my point was towards the Portal. Players in the coming years are going to be less inclined to transfer as they see that these other players are ending up in the backwoods of Alabama and Mississippi in the JUCO ranks.

That’s why Bama fans are incredulous. It’s a more level playing field now

That's not always the case. Some schools have programs plus alumni establishing model businesses so they can pay players. Of course these businesses have non disclosure agreements and these young men are oblivious to what they're signing themselves into. So they were paid for a few months, but if they were injured during the season or they didn't reach expectations, these protection businesses stop paying them. The athletes can't sue since don't have money to pay a lawyer and have a lawsuit that will prolong. Also the paper trail to these businesses are limited as well. Now alot of these athletes are transferring hoping to land a new home *cough* *cough* Texas A&M. If that's not enough, programs are trying to buy other athletes from other schools. This is going out of hand and the notion to investigate this is non existent. Hopefully, the new President of the NCAA committee can enourage schools to have a committee to keep their programs in order. Imagine telling the SEC's, OSU, USC, Miami,FSU, etc. to keep things in order

Not hitting the panic button but seems we are losing more than we are getting...so far. Is Chadwell having difficulties in persuading some of these guys to stay or is it normal to have guys enter the portal late in the game, Liberty having played their final game two weeks ago?

Granted, some of the guys entering the portal didn't play much but some were key cogs in the wheel.

I think it's the new normal. On3 shows 31 more NCAA players entered yesterday and 10 more have entered by lunch today, many of whom finished their season earlier than or close to Liberty: https://www.on3.com/transfer-portal/wire/football/2023/

Similar schools are in similar positions. App State and Coastal, for example, have 10ish in the portal. WKU has like 20. Some kids just need time to evaluate their options and decide, or perhaps work through some academic details.

I think in the NIL era a lot of players are just putting their name out there to see if someone will throw some money their way and others might be using it as leverage to get more NIL money from their original school. There will also be a fresh batch of P5 players that won't like where they are on the depth chart after spring practices and looking to find playing time elsewhere. All we can do is wait until the summer before we can be excited or disappointed in how the roster looks heading into the 2023 season.

Of our guys that went in. Walker Butler Rocket megginson and hunter are the only losses and a couple have legal issues. Sings and norwood came back.

Brown - had no shot of ever playing. Best for both
Bodden - rotational piece that was useful but not a huge loss.
Lofton - virtually invisible other than the 1 handed td against ODU in 3 years. Easily replaceable.
Brunson - was buried on depth chart. Not sure he has any offers. Replaceable
Buchannan - tons of FCS offers. Depth piece at best.
Stricker- kickoff specialist. Good at that. Terrible pk
Poole - walk on. Special teams player.

Added 2 rbs and juco DT so far.

I think weve actually done better than i would have thought considering we had a coaching change.

So to me we have already replaced Hunters production. We still need a portal Lb to replace Walker even with Norwood coming back but maybe not quite as badly. Def need a safety or 2 from the portal with Rocket leaving. They can surely find a comparable corner to megginson. You can find another DL comparable to Butler. Then we can upgrade from the 2nd tier of guys i listed. Im actually very optimistic. If i could keep 2 id keep rocket and stricker because i think those jobs may be tough to fill at the same level.

First week with the full stuff together this week.

Megs and Rocket are both grad transfers so I’m not surprised that they’re using their final year at a p5 school. Hunter has his legal issues and Walker left because of Freeze. The others weren’t big losses. It was big getting Sings back. He should be Johnson’s replacement.

Speaking of Freeze, Dae Dae is rumored to be following him to Auburn.
