Can anyone explain the mountain of a man city police officer that was following HCHF around on Saturday. He was as big at the linemen were. Everywhere Coach went he followed him. He never was more that 10 feet or so away. My daughter is a senior at LU and she said there was some rumors going around of needed security. Just curious. Attached is a picture.

Most all Head Coaches have a policeman for security. Some have 2. I believe this originated witn Bear Bryant having 2 Alabama State Troopers with him on game day.

If that LUPD Officer is who I think it is, he actually used to be a LU Football Coach on Gill's staff, who joined LUPD to pursue his law enforcement dreams. Nice guy, but unfortunately, his name slips my mind right now.

As far as rumors go, I saw where some "activists" where posting about his player(s) on Freeze's Instagram page and he told them to email him. But they weren't threats. But yes, most D1 head football coaches have law enforcement protection assigned to the on the field during games.

Every coach, for both home and away teams, is provided a police escort. Usually most schools at the FBS level send at least one officer with the team on away trips though some FCS schools don’t. In those cases the home team would provide an officer for that coach. LUPD provides an officer on both sidelines for the coaches every game. This isn’t anything new.

The officer pictured is Bryant Lewellyn, former LU defensive tackle and assistant strength coach on Gill’s staff.

Thank you for the replies. I've noticed field security before, but they were usually down at the ends of the players. It was just kind of odd that he followed him so closely. Again, thanks for the input on the former player.
