Bowl Projections!

Ok, it's way to early to talk about possible bowl games BUT, here I go! The first and only projection by ESPN is on Christmas day for the Camellia Bowl against Southern Miss. I'd rather be in Alabama in December than NJ! Let's keep this thread alive throughout the season and see what percolates-GO FLAMES!

I really need us to stay away from Christmas Eve/Day bowls. Likewise, I need something in the south and within driving distance. Hopefully, these personal preferences will weigh heavily on those making selections for LU bowl destination this year! :D

I'd be cheeky if we got sent to whatever bowl is in Charlotte, merely because it's the closest/easiest drive and I really enjoy the Queen City. Taipei Express on Providence Rd. is the best chinese IMO. Otherwise, my preferences are in the south and a P5 opponent, and definitely not So. Miss. I'd rather play the Beach Chickens again. At least it'd add to the rivalry.

To illustrate how silly and bad some bowl projections are, see today's article here...
https://www.aseaofred.com/roundup-of-bo ... eason-2-0/

USA today projects Liberty to play Army in a bowl. The USA Today write clearly did not look at the Liberty or Army schedule to see that Liberty plays Army the last game of the season. Does he really think Liberty and Army would play each other in "back-to-back games"? Of course not. Clearly not enough analysis happening with some of these Bowl projections.

We'll see how this conversation shapes up over the course of the season. Go Flames!

After 4 games, the ESPN bowl projections are starting to come out. Both writers project us to play APP State in either the Cure Bowl or Boca Raton Bowl on Dec. 17th/18th. It's nice to be in the conversation this early but the next few weeks are critical for us GO FLAMES!

I hope we play a better opponent than App State.

I hope we play later than 12/18. Hard to feel like bowl season a week after championship week.

Reminder of bowls we have agreements to play in. Technically the cure bowl is supposed to be more of a backup if the sunbelt and/or aac don't have enough bowl eligible teams.

Boca Raton Bowl
• FAU Stadium
• Boca Raton, Fla.

Camellia Bowl
• Cramton Bowl
• Montgomery, Ala.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
• Albertsons Stadium
• Boise, Idaho

Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl
• Toyota Stadium
• Frisco, Texas

Myrtle Beach Bowl
• Brooks Stadium
• Conway, S.C.

New Mexico Bowl
• Dreamstyle Stadium
• Albuquerque, N.M.

If Cinninnatti gets into playoffs, does g5 still get NY6 game? If so one could make a good argument that LU deserves invite with 2 loses. This could happen if we play Mississippi close and Louisiana beats Coastal in Sunbelt Championship game. Louisiana just beat App State 41-13.

Yes, but we are not part of official G5 and have no tie in to NY6. Neither does BYU. Group of Five is Officially “ conference members of MWC, AAC,MAC,Sunbelt,CUSA. IF the best G5 isn’t ranked high enough by Playoff Committee ( 12 or 15 - can’t recall ). Then NY6 can take another team. Doubtful it would be an LU team that averages 18k in attendance.

Two current projections by ESPN (Extra Socialist Progressive Network).
1. Cure Bowl - Dec. 17th- vs. App State
2. Arizona Bowl-Dec.31st-vs. San Diego State

If last year's team ran the table to include the canceled Beach Chicken game- that probably would've been our better shot at a NY6. Running the table next season would get us in the mix, but we'd still need a lot of help by the traditional G5 powers not do as well. Outs-de-outside shot in the current set-up. The proposed 12 team playoff is more kind to us, especially if we beef up our schedlues.

Don't count Ole Miss as a lost just yet. If Texas A&M can beat Alabama, there's a chance Liberty can beat Ole Miss.

In today’s ESPN projection one writer has us against Kent St and the other against Virginia Tech.

Does anyone know what the record for most consecutive appearances in the same bowl game is? We should just work with espn to get an exclusive tie in with the cure bowl. Opponent doesn't matter, we are going for history here.

A bowl game vs. VT within driving distance of both schools would be amazing and guarantee massive attendance.

Only trouble with Cure Bowl is 9 out of 10 trips there, our opponent would be some team fron Sun Belt or CUSA.

Although I have enjoyed us rubbing the SBC teams’ face in it. 😂

Would be even sweeter now.

In McCaw's interview with WLNI last week, he stated that we have 9 Bowl tie-in's that he thought was more than a conferences. Also doubted we'd get the Cure Bowl tri-fecta.

I like the Tech and Miami Feloncanes projections the most. I wouldn't be upset with the ones vs Air Force, ECU or Nevada.

We should want any matchup with a P5 school who has a large fan base. Then win.
We are in a phase of program development in which exposure helps us very much with name recognition.

I would much rather play a 6-6 P5 school than a 10-2 G5 school.
Looking through the College Football standings, some of the P5 teams at or around .500 are...
  • Louisville 4-4
    Florida State 3-5
    Miami 4-4
    North Carolina 4-4
    Virginia Tech 4-4
    West Virginia 4-4
    TCU 3-5
    Texas 4-4
    Rutgers 4-4
    Washington 4-4
    Southern Cal 4-4
    Florida 4-4
    Missouri 4-4
    South Carolina 4-4
    Tennessee 4-4
    LSU 4-4
With all that said, a game with LSU would be amazing. Lots of exposure. Not sure we could win that game, but the exposure would be amazing with LSU's massive fan base.

A team closer to home would be ideal. Virginia Tech would be epic. Huge fan base, in our back yard.

Miami and Florida State also have massive fan bases. Would be fun matchups.

What if TCU becomes bowl eligible and two Christian schools get to square off with one another? That would be a lot of fun!
