Not sure that I like this. I hope/trust that Ian and HF have a zero tolerance policy, firmly in place with him. It would be a great thing if he is truly able to turn things around. I guess we will see.

Update from ASOR is that Holloman is not on the official roster yet because not everything has been worked out with his transfer from FIU.

This is a situation which could end up biting us in the hind-parts. I'm all for second chances, but I hope we didn't make this decision because it was a position of need (which it is). My trust in HF's judgement is not at a level with McKay, but I'm cautiously optimistic that he knows what he is doing. Pretty safe bet that Ian was involved in the final call on this one as well.

Holloman and Salter make me nervous. In fairness, Holloman has been on FIU's roster for two years and nothing has happened as far as him getting in trouble. Salter doesn't seem really mature and I am not sure he grasps his mistakes and that he won't continue to get more chances if he messes up again.

Waiting for ballcoach to show some intellectual integrity and condemn LU accepting transfers.

Holloman on his own is one thing.

Salter on his own is similar.

You put the two together and there are some massive warning flags going up.

Holloman made it through FIU without trouble so I'm not too worried about him. Kaidon needs to mature and hopefully with the support and the new crowd he'll be surrounded with, he will just do that.

I trust HCHF and the staff.

I trust Freeze to win. That’s about all I can trust him for. There were questions well beyond the escort stuff at Ole Miss, so I can’t say I trust his judgment in these situations. We’ll have to wait and see.

Nervous is good. These young men do need to show out. I would not think they are coming her thinking they are at Miami of the 80's and 90"s. The blank check is not there.
Holloman, 2 Years good after a mistake is pretty solid. He will get playing time here (if he practices well) and he is good enough.
Salter is young. That does not mean he is unable to redeem himself. Practice hard, own yourself and, listen to your brothers and coaches. He will get more here than he ever would have at UT.
If they succeed we can build a track record of redemption that will resonate with players and families for recruiting.
If they go out of severely bounds hopefully we do what needs to be done.
I am not worried about the direction. I am sure between the AD and HCHF they had enough of shenanigans.
These kids most likely know they have a great opportunity with a great coaching staff to develop. They also most likelty are aware this is not a free pass.
I trust we are doing all we can to keep everything above the board.

For the "I trust Hugh" and "I trust Ian" crowd:

I get it. I really do. But I also trusted Danny Rocco. I worked for him for three years and I know his character. He's one of the best men I've ever been around.

But when you're a highly competitive individual who is really great at your job, you start to think "I can be the one to get it right. I can fix him." Your ego - often times used in really healthy ways - and desire to win - again, often used really well - convince you to take chances you shouldn't be taking and make exceptions you normally wouldn't take.

I'm all for second chances, and I really hope my concerns are Asa Chapman PTSD, but I can't blindly trust coaches when they start bringing in a few high rated second chance guys all at once.

The Asa shadow haunts those of us who have been around long enough to rememebr him. Ian & Coach Freeze weren't here for that debacle. But it is certainly a cautionary tale that they have heard plenty about since arriving on the mountain.

One of the things I like about Liberty athletics is the character of the teams that okay for Liberty. Just watch a few minutes of the basketball team and it's apparent. The kids are unselfish and have a high level of character. At the risk of sounding over the top, they even reflect Christ in how they play the game.

Outside of the few incidents that got Salter and Holloway kicked of their respective teams, I hope we have considered their character as an indicator. I'm talking about day to day attitude. Are they truly repentant with an obvious change? They very well could be, so I hope I'm not putting off a vibe saying they're not.

My point is, these athletes are going to be the face of the University, so it's not just not getting in trouble with the law, but how they conduct themselves day to day. They should be held to a higher standard than the rest of the student body, not a lower one. That might not be fair, but that's why you gain a scholarship and get to represent the school on national television.

I haven't seen a negative trend in our teams character. Malik Willis is a great example of a big time transfer with great character. He shows that winning can happen without sacrificing character.

But winning is nothing if we don't first represent Christ. Again, these kids may very well have great character. Holloman's incident was years ago, and it could have been a one off. Salter could have a great attitude of repentance and they both could be looking to prove out Christ's redeeming love. I hope the coaches have considered this, and I'll assume they have. In the meantime I will pray that the entire athletic program continues to be a great witnessing tool as it has been in the past years.

I don’t think Ian or Hugh have done anything here (that we know of) to suggest there’s any problems, but I also don’t think two years for Freeze is enough time to say there won’t be any either. It seems like he’s gained some of y’all’s trust just because he’s been successful. We knew from the get-go that he’d be successful. The question was always about ethics and tactics. Time will tell if these guys pan out. Even if they don’t, it won’t necessarily be Freeze’s fault, but what will be telling is how he handles the behavior issues when they do occur.

247 Sports has not updated JJ Holloman yet. Note when they do, they will assign a Transfer Portal ranking to him which will be less than his HS rating. This is a brand new feature, so I was a bit confused when they assigned Salter nearly 8 points less than his HS rating. They factor in off field issues as well. Josh Pate discussed new TP ratings on his YouTube channel yesterday.

Stokes leaves out a huge part of why folks have trusted freeze and mccaw. Its because theyve had success without these issues thus far.

Had to search for Asa's crime--by the sound of it I thought he killed or nearly killed somebody. He dealt some drugs. OK bad but not THAT bad. Unless there was more to the story I'm less worried about setting a pattern. UVa and VaT have both had multiple murderers around campus. Has not seemed to scare of many applicants.

He had trouble before he got here, which is the reason he got brought up.

Those schools don’t have the same mission we do. We have to walk a fine line of redemption vs hypocrites.

One of the biggest issues with the Asa situation was Rocco tried to override his suspension to try and beat JMU. Winning became most important and it clouded his judgment.

I remember the trouble he got in and AD and Prez left it up to coach to determine if he would let him back on team after the court case got reduced ( which seemed to doom Rocco when he elected to let him come back) but wasn’t aware he was a project coming in...

We probably averaged 20% of our team getting kicked out of school late 80’s early 90’s - one cold beer, Deans out on the weekends jotting down license plates and you were out that semester and the following. Over 40 percent of our roster from all over FL, the Liberty Way was deadly back then...
