Two days age, Paul Finebaum suggested rather strongly that Southern Miss would be a great fit for HF. It would, in his opinion, gain him more exposure especially in the South and afford him the opportunity to prove he would be a great asset in the SEC moving forward.

What say you?....

He would definitely have a better foot-print in the deep South of SEC country IF he went back to his alma mater, so to that I point I agree. HOWEVER, when you look at national exposure which the SEC cares about alot LU will get more of that from last year to 2023. Southern Miss will have played 6 Power 5 teams in that span while LU will have played 15(I count BYU as a P5). Also, Southern Miss will have only played 2 more SEC teams in that time table.

I really don't think Hugh will leave for anything but SEC and I also don't think Vandy is that appealing to him, but that is simply a guess and nothing more.

He don't need to be in Mississippi to gain exposure. Everybody in SEC country knows what he can do. If he keeps winning and keeps his nose clean, he'll get some good P5 looks.

I really see anything other than a P5 job as a downgrade for Hugh Freeze. He fully has his roots here with his family and his children attending LU. I don't see him in any rush to leave. He can happily coach at LU with a nice salary while he waits for the perfect P5 job to come calling. In addition, I highly doubt Southern Miss can offer anything better than his current salary at LU.

Basketball is attempting to be the "Gonzaga" of the east with R. McKay, so why not attempt to be the "Boise State" of the east with H. Freeze, or has UCF already taken that spot? I believe LU has great potential and upside in all NCAA sports with the quality of coaches presently in place.

Hard to know if he has been miserable off the field with last year’s back and this years Covid / Falwell fallout. That might make him jump to a job in Miss just to get out of here BUT professionally the right move is to stay and win just enough to get a P5 offer. 2 years is plenty of cover for any AD to offer him. He doesn’t need a reputation of jumping around G5 jobs 1 -2 year’sat a time. I think Ian and McKay, Dot etc are cool enough peers for him and I think he enjoys them a lot - not sure if he and Nasser are tight, but hopefully he has liked LYnchburg enough and his family likes it enough as well. Heck he might even feel a bit of relief about JR if he heard a lot of the rumors regardless of whether he liked him or not on a personal level. Seems like a weight has been lifted rather than a cloud hanging over LU ( from a local level at least ). Those of you that live there could weigh in - is it weird and everyone on tip toes or is it a breath of fresh air with some uncertainty ?

I doubt if there's a P5 school with the coaching talent LU has, when all sports are taken into consideration.
