Not a good sign when Tre Clark tweets out this kind of message.

It’s hard to watch the “Leader” of this Country not care about us and the very school that you represent not care either. The world is more than Democrats and Republicans, but that’s all you people seem to care about...#blacklivesmatter

Jr. strikes again.

A lot of the current athletes and recruits were basically tweeting the same thing.

We're going to lose a lot of recruits with Jr around.

I’m a little disappointed our teams and coaches haven’t put out some type of statement. Freeze has retweeted some people, but nothing coming from our program. Given the amount of black athletes in our programs, you’d think we’d want to publicly support them.

I would hope there are at least conversations going on privately.

A lot of fhe statements being put out by organizations, especially the NFL, seem disingenuous to me so I'd imagine that is how a statement would be viewed by the athletic dept would be viewed.

BUT considering how little it appears Jr cares about this situation, it would be wise to put something out but that is the very reason nothing will be said. So again, I hope these conversations are at least happening privately.

This is best left to coaches to handle inside the locker room. Putting out a statement without handling your players in the locker room is counter productive. Showing your players you care and can listen go a long long way. No athlete came to LU because of Junior. The vast majority came because of the coach they play for.
Also, you don’t want to appear to be bucking your boss at LU

I don’t think every coach must tweet out whatever it is you think they should tweet out. Some will some won’t. The most important thing for them, or at least should be is handling their business with their players. If their players want them to tweet something or put out a statement fine. If not also fine

I don't think it is needed, especially if those conversations are going on in private public statements aren't needed. Now since Jerry is Jerry it would help reinforce what has been said in private.

White people don't get to decide if it's necessary or unnecessary. The black community - and black athletes - are telling us silence is unacceptable right now. LeVelle Moton, basketball coach at NCCU, said this over the weekend:
"The reality is a lot of these coaches have been able to create generational wealth," Moton said Sunday on ESPN Radio's Sunday Morning. "Their grandkids' kids are gonna be able to live a prosperous life because athletes who were the complexion of George Floyd were able to run a football, throw a football, shoot a basketball or whatever have you, so they have been able to benefit from athletes that look like George Floyd and many more. But whenever people [who are] the complexion of George Floyd are killed, assassinated, murdered in the street in broad daylight, they're silent."
Locker rooms are the place where prejudice and bad assumptions go to die. When you're forced to compete with and for people who look and experience the world differently than you, a level of understanding and trust replaces whatever was there first.

Sports have the opportunity to lead in this instance and, for the most part, they're staying silent.

This isn't directly connected to Jerry, but Lynchburg police requested assistance from LUPD, Bedford, Amherst, and Campbell police/sheriff's departments last night during the Lynchburg protests.

Bedford County came.

Amherst County came.

Campbell County came.

LUPD said they couldn't.

Very good point and you are right. I just have a bad taste in my mouth from companies who have never cared before all of a sudden putting out canned responses but I guess something is better than nothing. The NFL's response is what really rubbed me the wrong way and it seemed to have rubbed a lot of other people the wrong way as well.

I am allowing my own biases to get in the way of what is the right thing to do.

The NFL can't do anything right with public relations.

I loved the Jamey Chadwell quote I posted earlier because he didn't try to do too much or be politically correct. He explained his background, showed how sports changed his view, and then said he would use his platform to stand for those taken advantage of.

That's all that's needed.

I said it here before, but Jerry Jr. needs to go. His leadership has not become more Christ-like but has seemed to become less Christ-like. His comments last week on twitter about Governor Northam(who I believe should be impeached simply because he is pro-choice, murdering babies is never okay), were severely inappropriate and distasteful for a president of any college but especially of a Christian college. I wish I could say this is the only time this happened but we all know this seems to happen too much.

I will say we need to be careful assuming white coaches aren't saying anything. Just because they may be silent on social media does not mean they are silent on their campuses, in their communities or wherever they live. Social Media is just one of many ways to share your thoughts. Protesting is just one way of sharing your support, but having conversations with others about it matters too. Overall, this is a sad time for our country.

Because there were a group of protestors heading towards LU’s campus. There were threats of “burning the monogram” (which would be tough since it is stone). So yeah...LUPD sort of had other stuff to deal with

That makes sense and puts it in context. I wonder if LU will be a future target. I wouldn't be surprised.

Thanks for posting that. I was legitimately surprised people didn't show up on campus last night.

They were targeted last night. I heard that the tunnels to campus were blocked but was not clear if LUPD was doing that or protesters.
LU also doesn’t have Tac teams that Bedford and Amherst have. Based on everything that transpired I would not have expected LUPD to have shown up for 3 reasons. The people rioting a looting would have ramped up their efforts had they seem LU uniforms. Secondly, I don’t know what if any jurisdiction they have off campus in downtown Lynchburg. Finally, it’s not a huge leap to think those with ill intent would want to do harm on LU’s campus so why would you redeploy those resources?
Let’s try not to read nefarious purposes into things that have legit explanations

These kids have been raised/told their whole life that people (either cops, "white' people or the rich) is always against them. What will changing policies do when corruption is deep in the justice system and our society is more nihilistic than ever.?
What I'm reading is ramblings and blame, yet no actual solutions. Some people will maintain their biases even if the truth is plain common sense. As I stated, when a society has become Godless, the only thing citizens can go back to is tribalism or in this case race. That's why race is an issue and it's been pumped in our mind for generations. Division causes chaos with brings in order(for those who want to keep it). These kids are just going from what has been indoctrinated in their minds from a young age and emotions as I stated earlier. To be honest, all of us have. These kids have the right to not like what Jr is stating, because he's all politics (which most black people are told "Republican bad, Democrat good"). These athletes barely know anything about life,so of course they will respond based on what they're told and what they believe they know. I'm not agreeing with Jerry (although there's some truth to what he's saying but it's been so toxic), because he knows better but will do what he does because he actually believes what he's doing is 100% correct. The problem among "black" people and communities goes way deeper than police brutality and corruption. I'm not shocked these kids responded the way they did because I would've too a decade or so ago before information that were revealed to me. Sadly it is what it is because these issues will never go away just like they never did in other civilizations. We need to look up to God and with His mercy, maybe people will remove the veil from their eyes and not give in to the trickery of the Devil.

A letter was sent demanding Falwell to step down signed by over 3 dozen black alumni.

Liberty legends; Eric Green and Walt Aikens were included

Edit Rashad wasn’t on it

I don't think Rashad was on there. I was disappointed to not see his name but given his number is being retired and his relationship with Jr, I didn't expect to see him.
