I don't like Mack as the starting RB. He's good at running up the middle, but running to the outside or catches passes outside for him are very difficult. I like him as a change of pace back, but I want someone more like Hickson with a little more wiggle.

Here are our remaining running backs heading into spring football (not counting January enrollees)

Frank Boyd 5'11" 190 Lbs

Troy Henderson 5'10" 180 Lbs
Domonhic Jennings 5'11" 205 Lbs

DJ Abnar was 5'10" 185 lbs and was a starter. Louis is 5'8" and 175. I would be surprised if he added any more weight. He would be a change of pace back and would be a receiver in the backfield getting screens, flares, dump downs, pitches and wheel routes with the obligatory run up the middle once a game. Don't see him getting the work DJ got and really can't see him blocking 300 lb D linemen or 230 lb LBs.

DBs could all get switched around, there is a ton of depth there. I think we will see 45 combos of DBs starting and playing next year.

A few surprises Manson, Amari Jenkins probably wont start over grad transfer Butler. Freeze wasnt high on the LB core this year, I see him shaking it up. It feels like Tank Land will be moved all over the place, not sure he fits at SS as well.

William Green is a big big dude, and I think he could take the starting spot from James, but either way they both will play a ton of snaps per game.

Good catch. Forgot about him. Man we are so loaded at DB next year, definite strength of the team.

Shedro is doing what he does best. I think he should be returning punts too. Stubbs has been miserable at it as has everyone else that weve put back there.

I dont see shedro getting snaps ahead of troy henderson. I Thought both he and boyd have looked good when theyve gotten opportunities.

Starters at wr wont matter much but youll see stubbs/douglas a ton and lofton yarbrough frith shaa jackson and coleman all outside.

Return game is one of the plays in football that you can just pure out athlete people. Back when some of those names that have been mentioned were returning punts, they were easily the fastest and most athletic on the field.

FBS has 4.4 linebackers on special teams.

I would be interested to see the percentage of punts returned for touchdown at FCS vs FBS.

Jonathan Carone wrote: December 26th, 2019, 3:12 pm Why have we been so much worse at returns the last couple years? We had a run from like 06-13 where our return game was pretty strong.
It's all about depth. We are not playing fcs schedules anymore. While we may have had enough talent to win some fbs games, in others, we run out of gas middle of 3d-4th qtr. because starters wear down. We may have a talented returner but we also need talent blocking for him. As we start stacking better recruiting classes we will have better athletes on special teams to block and tackle. Then I think we will see some dramatic gains in this arena.

I think the list below had a minimum of returns at 10 or so. But you can see we are at the bottom on punt return average in the country. This blows my point out of the water, we just need to improve a ton. Doesn't matter FCS or FBS, we need to improve. Depth is the biggest thing here as stated above.
