I'll be out most of the day but wanted to get the game thread going early. Feel free to post thoughts and photos from the day.

1:19 into the game and LU leads 7-0. Calvert 4-4, 80 yards and a TD to Frith. AGG gets two catches and is now the all-time leader in yards receiving.

Don’t forget about the chat room. Postie has enlisted service personnel spend minutes crafting this feature

Anyone else think coach looks ticked or maybe in pain, I’m not sure what it is. But every time they show him he looks that way.

Flames clicking on all cylinders. Great for the homecoming crowd and if potential recruits are visiting.

Anyone watching at home have any info on the targeting call? Looked like he hit him in the chest from my point of view.

This is such a breath of fresh air because in the past games like this have made us worry or anticipate the worst.

You are right, he did. The targeting rule is a two-parter where part B you hardly see. Part A is forcible contact to head and neck area, part B is leading with the crown of the helmet, which is what he did, and it can be called when done to any part of the body. It’s more a rule to protect the tackler in that situation. That’s a dangerous way to tackle someone, for your own health.

This performance on defense has been subpar. Should not give up a 3rd and long like that. Penalties. Giving up big plays. Thankfully offense has been great.

52-24, end of 3rd. Maine gets the onside kick and starts the 4th with the ball.

As happy as I am with the offense, this defense has been scary bad

I know that we have a lot of backups in but allowing 30 (possibly more) to Maine is a little disappointing.

Our performance over the last 5 minutes reminds me of the days when we were upset by Del St. after being up by about 30 in the 2nd half. I guess it is just a liberty thing.

Embarrassing.

Wow ridiculous. They have more offensive yards than we do now too. This is a defensive performance straight out of 2018. We have certainly not arrived. Not feeling too certain about a Rutgers win anymore and BYU seems doubtful too.

Worst defense I ever seen. Maine should have never crossed mid field in this game
Cover receivers and pressure QB

The defense has been bad but leave it to ballcoach to go overboard with his hyperbole.

Why decline the penalty for hitting the kicker? Wouldn't that give us a first down or have the rules changed?

It would not have been a first down. You take the penalty and don’t risk a return on a re-punt.

I think refs rode down with the team from Maine

At halftime Maine’s coach told Melody that what frustrated him most was how beatable Liberty is. At the time I rolled my eyes. He was definitely right. There’s no reason we should have given up 44 points, almost 500 yards (if not 500 now) and 5 touchdowns to a freshman QB. Rutgers just may win game #2 next Saturday. I am very disappointed.
