First Half Season Surprises

Give me your thoughts on surprises from the 1st half of the season:

1. Ralf Rusins gets the top spot from me and I look forward to how he continues to improve over the half and next season too.

2. Ceneca Espinoza surprised me as well due to his fundamentally sound play this year.

3. Points Per game for the offense sitting at 23 is mind-boggling but lack of execution not talent or coaching has kept that number low.

4. Solid play by true freshman was expected but the amount of them playing at a high level and pushing for more reps has been a very pleasant surprise.

Biggest surprise is the number of points we're leaving on the field. Should have probably 3 more TDs every game.

1. Almost losing the best coach we've ever had to a serious infection before he coached his first game.
2. The play of the Freshman, mainly in the secondary. Not much, if any, drop off when the upper-classmen go out.
3. Ralf. Seems like he's been here forever and still only a junior. Happy to see him finally get to show what he can do when healthy.

1. Kei'Trel Clark and Tank Land in particular among the freshmen
2. Ralfs Rusins. While I would have loved to see this kind of output before his r-senior campaign, I am so happy to see him finally break out as a force on the front line
3. Josh Mack- Frankly, I knew he would be good but he is even exceeding those expectations as the lead back after his fumble against Syracuse

Rusins is a R-JR. He has another year.

His talent has been evident for some time, he just couldn't seem to stay healthy til this year.

If our defense continues to improve, our DC should be in the running for Assistant Coach of the Year.

Good article in News & Advance on the defense today.

Defense-defense-defense! We look entirely different on that side of the ball. Schematically, we are almost never out of position and the secondary is light years above the past few years.
I thought the offense would be a bit more creative (similar to Ole Miss when HF was there). I'm not sure if our QB can handle anymore complexity-seems to have his hands full right now.

I believe our offense will truly blossom next year with Malik Willis at QB, a quarterback who truly fits HCHF's system.

The biggest surprise has been very obviously, Freeze's health and the amount of time he's had to miss. Obviously, Buck is having some issues with Freeze's schemes, but we'd be a lot farther ahead had Freeze not missed so much time. Most likely, the SU and ULALA games would've been completely different.
