Independence Bowl Scenario

On CSNBBS there was a decent topic that was started so I figured I would see the thoughts over here. The Independence Bow apparently is struggling to fill the spots. 3 times in the last 10 years have the representative conferences ACC and SEC both filled their slots. So the question is, if we got a permanent tie in would you be willing to take less of a payout to ensure we had a bowl and it was most likely against a P5 school? An example would have been like last year we would have played Duke and the year before would have been FSU. If it was a P5 school we take 200k out of the 1.2 million payout and the P5 school gets 1 million. If it was a back fill with a G5 we do a 50/50 split. So this would almost guarantee us a game with a P5 school, in a decent driving range for most fans, still cover travel expenses and guarantee us a bowl if eligible. What are y’all’s thoughts? I tried to explain that as good as I could lol.

Good explanation. At this level and at this point in time it’s all about making a Bowl Game. Granted it’s not Dallas but.....

I love most of this idea, but I'd hate to take that much of a pay cut for the bowl. Maybe more like 300k for us, 900k for P5, that way it still heavily favors them, but we're at least getting 1/3 of their payout.

Just get to Bowl game, worry about payout after the game. Going to Independence Bowl and playing a Power 5 school would be great. In reality playing a P5 school in our first bowl game, would be better than playing some non P5 in a dot.com bowl in Detroit or Idaho.

Or, it would be better to WIN a bowl game against a G5 school than to LOSE a bowl game to a P5 school.

It depends. Whatever team gives us the edge on recruiting / good publicity.

I thought about that and certainly could be negotiated. I’m sure the Independence Bowl would prefer a P5 opponent since it would be better for television. I think the sound of 1 million would still be enticing to the SEC/ACC to agree to the deal.

Playing a SEC school would give us good airtime, PR, and recruiting tool.

Our goals are: 1. To be the best G5 level school. 2. Eventually join the P5 ranks. So if we can play in the Independence Bowl ( a bowl that most have heard or) against a P5 school vs. being in the Cure Bowl (a bowl that many doesn't care that it exists) against a G5 school, then the choice is obvious for our school's missions. Obviously, we don't turn down either and count our blessings.

I would certainly be down with the Flames playing a bowl game not far from the Lone Star State ... even if it has to be in the Greater Shreveport/Bossier City Metroplex (lamest city of decent size in Louisiana).

It's a town of buffet restaurants, which the ASOR crowd would love. I was there for my dad's Air Force reunion in 2004.

When I went to bowl game there, I stayed at Barksdale AFB. Nice accommodations.

Ballcoach, that's where my dad was stationed as an MP during the Korean War, but back then it was called Bossier Base.

Nice AFB, I could look out my window and see the B 52s on Tarmac . The Guest Billets were only about 100 yards away..
My only complaint was the on base BK was closed. It was during Christmas holidays.

The Army loves our bases!
So is the reason you love BK so much is because they are on almost every military installation? Gives you flashbacks of the good ol' days. It all makes sense now. I can respect that
