Generally speaking when players receive early offers they assume that better ones will be coming down the line. By the time they come to realize that the early offer(s) are as good as it is going to get, the schools have often moved on and received a commitment from someone else. This happens all the time. Sometimes a player gets hurt or has a dud senior season. Either way the options disappear. Scholarship offers are not permanent. They are intended for right then and there. Kids have trouble understanding this concept particularly with football not having the early signing period. That's something that needs to change.
